These aren't bad cars and are a good and affordable way to build up passenger cars. However the predecessor cars to these made by Rivarossi for IHC were slightly better than IHC's own versions. Rivarossi and IHC parted ways in the mid 90's and IHC got caught with no el cheapo passenger cars so tooled up their own.

Eire-built C-Liner... they did the same with Baldwin Shark-noses. Four to six axle... John RPO's usually go behind the locomotive(s).

Both cars are nice but they refers to a different time period. Maybe two different trains, one with a steam engine if you have some, and one with diesel. Just an idea.

Convert that Athearn blue box to DCC n Sound technology it's worth the investment n they run n sound like the real locomotive's

I bought that exact CB&Q Life-Like Proto 2000 locomotive for the same reason (-the paint scheme). I figured I could always put it into my future West Coast layout as a borrowed motive power unit. ;) I am in the planning stages of my first layout, and all my HO motive power is in boxes, but will use your video when it's time to install decoders. Thanks

I replaced the gears in all my P2K GP7 and E8 (each uses different gears). Gears for GP7/9 are available from Athearn (60024), A-Line (40005) and complete axles from Walthers (920-584408). Complete axles for the E8 are available for Walthers (920-584494). Some of my PA's are cracked too but I know of no replacement. I suggest an NMRA wheel gauge for setting the wheels properly.

All I can say is congratulations on being able to do ALL that electrical stuff. I’m starting a small layout and when I see videos like yours is when I get really scared. I do not plan to have signals other than possibly decorative ones. I’m struggling enough with the electrical parts of the switches and again that’s scary enough for me. Thanks for all the great videos.

I ordered a dummy loco (blue box PA-1) that has horn hooks installed. I want to exchange for knuckles. Is it as simple as taking the horn hooks out and replacing them or is it more involved like this is? It looks like a different setup than this, but I don't know.
@kurtstrains2 ай бұрын
It probably has truck mounted couplers. You should just be able to replace with Kadee #5s. But check the height, if it is too low use a #47.
@donttreadonmetal50732 ай бұрын
@@kurtstrains it does have truck-mounted, and it seems it's a sandwich type setup. There's a pylon that drops down from the top, the coupler goes on that, and then the "box cap" goes over that. through the hole in the box cap, you can see the bottom of the pylon when done.

That is an impressive train! You have such a great space to work with and your layout is going to be awesome when completed. Even if you don't plan on running trains this long, it's always fun to test the limits. 😀

It's always nice to see trains finally running on the layout. It's confirmation that all of your hard work is paying off; trackage is in gauge, decoders are working, freight and passenger cars are running reliably. Also, seeing trains running through a layout that is still under construction lets one's imagination run wild; here's where the passenger station will go, over there will be mountains, here will be several industries with great switching possibilities, and way over there about a hundred trees will have to be planted. Great progress. Keep up the good work.

You could enlarge the hole and possibly cut a channel from there to the end for you wire to lay in. Another option would be to screw a light gauge phosphor bronze flat bar or wire to the bottom of the truck with the loose ends riding on the axles, Then have your wires soldered to it with a small hole drilled in the floor to pass up to the PC board. I will be ordering some of your boards later. Great ideas. Thanks.
