There is EVEN more stuff you miss in my opinion with characters arcs.....GT actually continues the STORY of each character where they left off, and the best example is VEGETA, at the end of DBZ Vegeta give up competing with Goku and accepted pretty much he was the superior fighter and from that point on embraced Earth as his HOME, Super in the other hand......regress Vegeta to constantly wanted to become the superior Saiyan have his PRIDE to be a saiyan at his highest and the only good developed is that he actually embrace Bulma and his family but everything else he is still that same Saiyan who wanted to prove he is the strongest there is too prideful to admit that Goku is just different....not help that Super made Goku a MORON to hammer why Vegeta still hats his guts.....in GT even the CLOTHING showcase Vegeta grown, yes is goofy seen Vegeta at first with a dad look and simple clothes, that made him look so earthling, but that is THE POINT, Vegeta never go back to wear his Saiyan Armor he is happy calling Earth his home, Goku is still the genius master of Martial arts we all know despite been a turn into a kid, even Gohan, yes both shows make Goham an scholar and live a more normal life, but in Super before the Tournament arcs, Gohan admit he pretty much AGAIN stop his training even worst than in the Buu saga making him weaker than ever....while in GT he live a peaceful life and dedicated to his study, he STILL KEEP UP with his training, not as much as Vegeta or Goku, but enough, and when the Black Dragon Balls crisis start he volunteer himself to go in the journey with Goku, also when the Baby crisis start Gohan showcase he was still leaps better than Trunks and Goten and pretty much only Baby Vegeta could match up, even still strong enough to one shot PICCOLO who actually always keep up with his training. Also Piccolo arc might be little, but man was beautiful, he deciding to sacrifice himself to erase the Black Dragon Balls to protect Earth, the same person who many years wanted nothing more than world domination the son of the devil incarnated himself and now will die to save the people on Earth and have a beautiful last good bye with his adoptive son.....and later he sacrifice again his chance to live in heaven to get trap in hell to safe Goku and ended literally BECOMING THE DEMON KING who rule Hell.....my dude that is sweet irony and such a beautiful deserved end to a badass character like Piccolo, GT actually respected most of the characters they touch and concentrate in the new generation, sadly the small amount or episodes didn't help to show how much they care to move the story forward instead of backwards like SUPER keep doing.

not only that but gt is actually after z while super is only after buu so basically theyre supposed to grow into the end of z and it honestly doesn't feel that way. the new era is basically just rewriting dragon ball and naruto into something else

A lot of unique ideas die because fans say "this guys number is bigger than that guys its not even close" when power isnt everything. I like how og Dragon Ball painted Krillin as strong in his own ways, because while he lacked strength, he was clever, and sometimes you just needed to outsmart your opponent to win. While the Buu saga did downgrade Goku, GT does better to bring him back to his Cell saga mature self. Super certainly has good moments (i love Battle of Gods and some depth Beerus gets later in Super, or Vegeta showing pride in Trunks after defeating Zamasu), but its not enough to make the show for me.

GT makes sense. And always had. It was just poorly executed in parts.

You make the some of the same points I make about why GT is better. You even share some of my sentiments about how DBZ kind of lost its way when Frieza appeared i.e. abandoning Saiyan lore completely. DBZ could have really developed and expanded upon Saiyan lore but for some reason I cant understand they traded what could have been for three super lame villains, namely Frieza, Cell, and Buu. DBZ started off so good. It is a shame really. However, I do believe that Super Janemba and Broly are the best villains in the Dragon Ball universe. Baby is right up there with them but not quite as cool imo. I like Android 17s character design better than Frieza, Cell, or Buu. Same with Omega Shenron. I think DBZ had the best good guy character designs with the exception of SSJ4 characters, but man Frieza, Cell, and Buu are just so lame. Oh and SS3 is super lame too... and Vegito just doesn't need to exist... What a let down. When Vegeta first showed up on earth, DBZ could have done some great things with the Saiyan lore but no. At least we got Broly out of DBZ movies. I haven't really seen much of Super, but from what I have seen... meh. The Gogeta vs Broly fight was cool even though I think SSJ Blue is stupid. Gogeta with blue hair? No. Just, no. But whatever the animation was good. Beerus is cool I guess. The king of the multiverse whatever in the hell that thing is just has me scratching my head like what the hell were they thinking. That character is terrible. Its like if Mr. Towley from South Park grew a football shaped head. It's really dumb. Yeah, Super just doesn't interest me at all.

Gt is better

Gt gohan didn’t get super weak he is stronger then buu still. When Goku was fighting general rildo Goku said he could be as stronger or stronger then Buu. And gohan was fighting rildo during the super 17 saga and he didn’t even try to go super saiyan meaning in his base form he was fighting someone that is as strong as buu. Plus Gohan wanted to go with Goku to get the dragonballs and was the one that wanted to go beat the shadow dragons with Goku. So GT Gohan kept with his training. Baby goten couldn’t even harm Gohan. He tried to get Gohan to use his full power with greens super saiyan. Only way he got Gohan to go full power was to risk his brother life.

People who like Super more than GT. Can we both agree that GT Vegeta is superior to Super vegeta. GT Vegeta is more mature and he really doesn't follow him Goku shadow for the most part. Vegeta has more respect and suggested to Goku that they should fuse unlike Super Vegeta that's reluctant to help Goku. I think Dragon Ball GT and Dragon Ball Super has pros and cons to both show and I don't believe either of them are on the same level as Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball Z in my opinion is where Dragon Ball ended and him flying off to train Uub was peak. GT managed to re-capture the vibe and heart of Dragon Ball whereas Super tried to pull on nostalgia and really didn't develop the characters other than Android 17 and Frieza? Perhaps there's more but the characters felt tired and 1 dimensional. I think both series is good

Freeza forms aren't power up more so restraints. They aren't multipliers either to be clear. His final for is his true state his true self this was in dragon ball revealed to be case. As we saw when he continued to power up he just got bulkyer.

tbh i dont think its an unpopular opinion that besides goku black arc the whole reboot was sub par.

Currently 26 episodes into watching GT for the first time. I’m enjoying it now but for me, GT is very slow to get going and there’s just some bits which I didn’t really feel drawn into (the earthquake monster for example) it seems to lack direction initially but it picks up. Super is way different in tone and is way more about spectacle with power ups, crazy power scaling and the TofP.

Everything is better than super 😓. The only decent moments were merged zamasu. Super Saiyan God and SSJ blue are some of the lamest transformations. SSJ 4 is so much cooler. It is kinda cool when they potara as blue tho. And the super movies are pretty lit

Super Saiyan God should've been Red for Goku, and Blue for Vegeta due to his royal blood.

GT is a way better sequel to Z than super is.....i do like Super as well and i love how it added new things to the Dragon Ball lore as well as some awesome moments and transformations but GT is still a better sequel over all (like you said goku is still goku in GT unlike in Super where hes a complete idiot that is willing to endanger his friends his family & multiple universes just to get some good fights and i realize that he is a saiyan and saiyans like fighting but goku shouldn't be putting his saiyan love for fighting over the safety of his friends family and countless innocent lives) and Super also did vegeta dirty as well in Dragon Ball Z vegeta went from being goku's enemy and a villainous narcissist in the saiyan saga to somewhat of a anti-hero by the cell saga and by the end of Z he considered himself to be goku's friend and Super just reset most of vegeta's character development by pretty much making him like a more heroic version of cell saga vegeta (GT on the other hand didn't reset his development from Z and showed us that vegeta still has his rivalry with goku but at that point it is a much more friendly rivalry instead of a "i simply must be better than you because being weaker than you is an insult" type of rivalry") also the end of GT made death relevant again within the Dragon Ball series unlike Super where death still holds no meaning

GT while flawed, showed more reverence for what Dragon Ball had become in the cultural imagination, and felt like a celebration of the anime rather than the manga.

I really really dislike the animation style in Super. That may be a silly reason to have never seen it, but it was so much better in Z.

Super is bad, but it's nowhere near as bad as GT.

Akira Toriyama (my he rest in peace) was never the best at continuity and it shows in super, as well as even in bits of Z. Example: During the Android saga, Roshi is explaining who the Red Ribbon Army was and says that "Dr. Gero was the head and General Tao was the arms and legs" If you've watched DB, you know that Commander Red was the head, his several color coded generals were the arms and legs (and all failed against Goku). While Mercenary Tao was a hired mercenary who only care about his pay and pride. GT tries to pay homage to original DB in the first arc with slapstick adventures and Z in the second with the big flashy battles. And in my opinion, the continuity is so much more accurate than that of Super. It's not perfect but Dragonball never had been. There's just something about the time setting and how the characters are portryed in Super that throws me off. Plus, I really dont care for Super Saiyan "color of the week" with all the transformations. Characters established as so weak comparatively they couldn't stand next to Goten powering up, are portrayed as much, much stronger for literally no reason. While both have their pros and cons, IMO, GT is fundamentally a stronger series as a whole with so much less contrivance. Also, Dragonball is my favorite out of them all, so the quirky adventure bit in the beginning of GT suits that. "SPARKING!"

When i was a kid i didnt know a single person who hated on GT. All the hate for GT is a new trend caused by grown adults overanalyzing a kids show 20 years later

I find it impressive how GT had almost no involvement from Akira and yet managed to be incredible, in Dragon Ball Super it really gives the impression that he was tired and only continued writing because he had to. (Which is still true)

One thing that i would never let slide is how they butchered goku's character for cheap laughs. I think they forgot the difference between being dumb and being naive & simpleminded.

Yeah I don't think this is really a unpopular opinion. It might be polarizing for a few people though. Im not a GT fan in fact before super came out I hated the show thought it did everything wrong. After Watching super I started to like GT because it clearly didn't do everything wrong and actually had a lot of key parts correct. Super on the other hand take and absolute dumb on good writing in fact I have to give them credit for how much work they must have put into writing something that bad. It must have been rather trialing to get that much wrong!

I will say this...the fact that Super takes place in the "time gap" at the end of Z before the epilogue episodes is....annoying. I hate the idea that chronologically those final eps of Z take place after ALL of Super. I always enjoyed the fact that GT was in fact a full-blown SEQUEL to Z instead of the weird "Midquel" that Super was forced to be.
