oh my god, what a graveyard. this was three years ago? that's how much the reef recovered in 7 years after the devastation bleaching warm water event of 2014-15. I don't think I could go there, it's so sad. Kona coast is even worse. To see a nice looking reef, the (abused) extensive finger coral reef of Kahekili has recovered incredibly. It's quite a experience to swim over it.

I enjoyed learning about the Polynesian culture, however when we discovered that this whole center was funded and run by the mormons, we were immediately repulsed. Mormons had/have nothing to do with Polynesian history or culture. They did nothing more than pollute these amazing peoples with their asinine religious fanaticism. And the workers were required to promote Mormonism in their performances. We left before the luau.

More of these dude! Loved it. What gloves are you using? Seems you had a lot of dexterity.
@murphytravelsofficialАй бұрын
Thanks! I have two pairs of gloves. For the uphill and rappel, I'm actually using a pair of leather "work" gloves I got from Walmart a few years ago. They breath super well and have great dexterity, but don't do good if it's too cold or wet. I don't know what the actual brand of them are though because all the text wore off the label. I actually tried to find the same pair recently and couldn't find the exact ones. For the downhill I've got a pair of Outdoor Research Arete gloves.

How far is the hike from the car to the trail head, and from the trail head to the springs?
@murphytravelsofficial2 ай бұрын
In the winter when the road closes, it's about 1 mile to the trailhead and then about 2.2 miles to the hot springs.
@mossydrop93372 ай бұрын
hard to tell where you came from with all that snow no?
@murphytravelsofficial2 ай бұрын
Yeah, the snow makes it more difficult to follow the trail. I usually use a GPS map on my phone that shows both where the route/trail is and where I am. If I get too far off the trail I can use the GPS to head back in the right direction.

@murphytravelsofficial3 ай бұрын
The dolphins I saw were pretty close to the surface. I swam out probably 100 meters from shore and waited for a while until a small pod of dolphins swam past me. The dolphins don't show up every day, but it is a pretty popular spot.

how long did this hike take you? Is it out and about?
@murphytravelsofficial3 ай бұрын
The trail is 3-4 miles total, depending on which parking spot you start at. It's an out-and-back trail with a loop in the middle. You can make it shorter if you skip the loop to the 400 year old tree. It probably took us about 2 hours to do the full trail.
@jonathanchao50673 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for sharing. How much harder/easier is going up the regular saddle way vs Robinson Variation? Also what’s the easier way down? Thanks again
@murphytravelsofficial3 ай бұрын
This was my first time hiking Twin Peaks, so I don't know exactly how much harder/easier it is to go the direct route up to the saddle. I did go down that route, so I can say that it is a little shorter with less total elevation gain than the Robinson's variation since you don't go up and down any smaller peaks along the way. However it seemed like the Robinson's variation had a lot less scree/loose rocks to get up than the normal way. The Robinson variation might also have a little more scrambling/exposure, depending on the exact route you take.
@mrwasatch3 ай бұрын
I would agree with murphy - they're about equal in difficulty - Robinson has more scrambling/exposure, but it avoids that horrible ascent to the 10,780 saddle between Twins and Sunrise - Robinson also offers that great view of Twins' north face - and best of all you can connect them as a loop from the same trailhead.
