Very good series. Gives me a start with PI. I watched each video, took notes, rewatched each previous video before going to the next, jumped back and forth from your video to PI and seem to be developing the muscle memory to not even look at notes. Curious is this is your workflow with every image? Are there different decision points for each type of image?
@PaulymanAstro
@PaulymanAstro 2 күн бұрын
My imaging is largely narrowband, so my workflow is quite different to that shown here. For any RGB imaging I do though it is close to what I demonstrated here. Although I do use the XTerminator suite by Russell Croman and will more than likely be incorporating the new AutoDBE script by SetiAstro.

I've just finished watching your OSC tutorial video and about to try and process some duo narrowband data. Should I be integrating some of these processes into that workflow?
@PaulymanAstro
@PaulymanAstro 4 күн бұрын
You most definitely could. Once you have separated your channels, you are basically working a mono workflow.

@@PaulymanAstro Thank you for the response. If I'm going to use Foraxx Utility but only have stars for Ha and Oiii (since I've made a third synthetic channel w/o stars) how should I go about this?

you can do the same thing using log histogram as well and achieve even more contrast, i pretty much exclusively use the log view in my processing

Yes I use the Log View much of the time as well, I kept it simple here. I did mention it in my Contrast video.

Really nice Pauly. I have not been taking full advantage of GHS. I've been taking my images into PS and using the camera raw filter dehaze and clarity tools to do much the same. These techniques with GHS would allow me to stay in PI. I'll need to try it out. CS!

The green is not the result of light pollution. It is the result of your camera's sensor being more sensitive to green than to red or blue (very common for color sensors). If you're able, find a QE chart for your camera's sensor and you can verify this. A relative response chart will typically have red around 90% of green, and blue around 80% of green. If you're taking pictures with your color camera and having those images saved as jpg files, an automatic color calibration is applied to the image as it's saved to correct for this. If you're having the data saved as a raw image, this correction is not applied automatically and must be applied manually when processing the raw image. If you've stacked a bunch of these raw images together, the discrepancy has been compounded, and thus the stacked images have a green tint.

why did you used unscren stars in linear part? (the docs is saying to use that option for non-linear part)
@PaulymanAstro
@PaulymanAstro 19 күн бұрын
Yeah that was unwise, I now use a different method, which gives me the colour I’m after in my stars. Which I demonstrate in most of my more recent processing videos.

Thanks. This video was purely to identify what lack of contrast looks like. I will create a “5 Minute Friday” video to address how to reduce any humps and flat spots. It does become a balancing act as sorting one flat spot could induce consequences elsewhere.
