You could probably turn the failed hat into a knit project bag pretty easily. There are many patterns for it on Ravelry. If you don't like using cotton yarn and still have some in stash, you could use it up to crochet or knit a bag or bandana. There are some gorgeous free and paid for patterns as well. The vest looks great btw :)

Thank you so much for making and sharing your videos teaching Hakka. My parents were born in Guandung. I learned some Hakka from at home. Thank you so much for teaching it on line.

Glad there are more Hakka people trying to preserve the language. Even my cousins in china don’t speak it even though I live in the Netherlands I speak it fluently.

I loved this video, it reminds me of my own “Hakka”, but not Chinese… it is “Bislama” (which I speak fluently) from Islands of Vanuatu. I usually need to fly "back home” to adoptive family to speak it, but the language is as colorful as “Hakka” seems to be. I look forward to all your videos on Hakka… to impress whom I hope will become my girlfriend - lol Either way, nothing wrong with a Guei-Lo who can speak some Hakka, right ?

Can you & Intl Hakka Assic.(?) starry a great up to produce translation of Hakka dialects by hand held portable translation machines or translation programs like Google translatior ? Thus, you could easily spread Hakka to overseas Hakka communities & indugudyaks, & to random? persons among foreigners of Chinese who 1st start with Mandarin/ Putonghua m, then want to learn about other Chinese dialects.

Hakka in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia sounds more similar to your Suriname Hakka than to the Sabah, Malaysia's Hakka. 😂😂

Snap. My family are from the New Territories in Hong Kong and our dialect of Hakka is the same as yours. However it's not difficult to understand all dialects. I am born in the UK and all Hakka people here speak the same dialect however many choose to speak Cantonese instead ☹️

Thank you for your really interesting and insightful video! My ancestors, who were Hakka people too fled war 400 years ago from Guangdong China to an island called Tung Ping Chau in Hong Kong. The island was inhabited until 1970s. And they developed a subdialect of Hakka, which really sounds similar to Surinamese Hakka. I assume because of the similarity of the tones, words and structures that the migration wave of your ancestors could be during the same time. Thank you for uploading this great video! ♥🤗🌺

I am also from Surinam. I was told by my father that the family originated from Guangdong. (Great) grandfather came from Guangdong via Macao in the 1800s.

Hi, I’m Hakkanese. I speak Hakka, but not too fluent in term of vocabulary. Just wanting to give some input about Hakka 客家. Basic translation is guest house. But it probably could be translated as guest family as jia (家) could also be translated as family. But it’s just my opinion. Please advise if there are some other different options. Cheers,

Pee- 闻,smell& chee-试 try are Hokien words as well. So Hakka is a mixed of Hokien & Cantonese words.I heard the Chaozhou-Teochew Hakka use the word kai for 的-possesive particle , same as Teochews.
