nice bit of kit, I would have wound the coil auto transformer style like this kzbin.info/www/bejne/mpjOYXuqhNp4Zqssi=6RnTdAe8YZrIe7UV. fyi liquid electricians tape or cut up pieces of old inner tube also can make good gaskets for the holes you drill in the case. I would also drill a small hole (in the bottom of the case) to allow any water that gets in or condensation to escape. looking forward to seeing the testing results.

Great video Jonathan. My current setup uses the choke at 0.05λ and another choke as the coax comes into the shack. Can’t wait to see your results video. 👍🏼

Hi, just out of interest… is there a dc connection between the bottom of the coil and the centre of the base socket?
@M0JSX3 күн бұрын
Hello. Just checked and yes there is (I removed the collar to ensure this wasn't acting as the DC path).
@Bass-guitarist3 күн бұрын
@@M0JSX thanks for checking and a prompt reply, ive looked at these designs and its interesting… it appears if the coil is being used as an inductance coil the DC base connection isn’t required, if the coil is being used as an autotransformer then the base connection is required obviously. Thanks again M0KTY

For what the 7610 costs, you can purchase three (3) IC-7300’s, and run each one on monobanders. The receiver specs between the two are negligible. So that’s what I did.
@M0JSX19 күн бұрын
I'm sure there are benefits either way. And I am totally not knocking the IC-7300. I have owned one for around 7 years, and would never consider selling it :)

Owning both IC-7300 as well as the IC-7600 helped us come to the conclusion that the IC-7300 is the better option when it comes to value for money or even just simplicity of use, most of the money should be put on a GOOD antenna that help reject QRM from the very start, many hams fail here, putting their big money in radios and microphones yet still not being heard.Nevertheless if you suffer for money growing out of your trees than go for the very best that suit you, BUT don't ever try and save money on your antenna

I have to agree with slight wobble on the two knobs, however, there has to be some travel to allow the switching function, i guess this doesn’t help. However the one push mute is excellent.. i seem to remember many Icoms used to use hide away knobs which also felt slightly wobbly… however, the fact that they could be hidden away meant they never received damage.. as a CW op. I find the radio really good as is the remote with SDRcontrol…All in all, very happy with it. Thanks for your review ☺️ Lastly, I have to mention Icom UK’s excellent support.

For that kind of money, it should have 200 watts, and a roofing filter. Once you have a roofing filter, you are spoiled and cant go back.

Excellent suggestion. In my case what I discovered was that the flex in the pole while lifting it into position puts a lot of extra tension on at least one of the elements causing it to fail at the fold over loops. I've since modified my Expedition as well and have had no further failures.
