How does he double bass and hi hat?
@calmac97202 сағат бұрын
He has his left bass drum pedal and hi hat pedal very close (as most people would), then simply has his left foot, half on the bass drum pedal, and half on the hi hat pedal so he can play both at once.

He sounds like a great drummer, but the camera work leaves tons to be desired. You barely see the drum set at all, it's mostly close-ups of his head and scenes of the OTHER band members. Who wants to see THAT in a drum solo video?
@sam-drums8 күн бұрын
Unfortunately I have not seen more clips of him playing solo. Robbie McIntosh was the original drummer for the Average White Band. His groove on the "Pick Up the Pieces" tune is out of this world.

With respect to Mr. Morello, whom I admire greatly....The creativity aspect should not be high on the list of any drummer who is at best, barely adequate. Drummers of the calibre of Mr. Morello usually are highly creative, but also have the good sense to stay quite basic when that is what is called for. The less is more angle. Mr. Morello is a legend!
@garethparr948225 күн бұрын
He might be pretty decent if he keeps up the practice😂😂😂 fabulous player!!
@jimo317325 күн бұрын
Keeping time is the obvious one. Creativity is something all musicians should have. Also though, being able to capture the essence of the piece you're playing with feel in it. To quote Buddy Rich: "I don't know what a rock drummer is, but I know what a drummer is. A drummer should be able to sit down and play with Count Basie then be able to sit down and play with the Beatles. A drummer should be able to play whatever the situation calls for." To me, that describes it pretty well.
@charlyW3424 күн бұрын
Mr. Rich said it much better than I did. Folks should also look for quotes from the great Hal Blaine!
@jimo317324 күн бұрын
@@charlyW34 Yeah, Hal Blaine much like Bernard Purdy don't get the credit they deserve because they were not associated as a member of a famous band but were session drummers, yet they were as good as anyone out there.
