Beautiful. Look a lot more shy than city ones. They look lighter in colour than the ones here a bit. But if that’s recent maybe they’re growing their undercoat for winter. That’s an animal I initially quite disliked when we moved here but now one of my favourites.
@CohanMagazineАй бұрын
Definitely super wary out here- not habituated to humans as in the city, and also they are still hunted out here. A friend is nervous about them and I always say you'd have to be much more worried about the ones in suburban/city areas than here! I don't often see them close (this is only maybe the 3rd time since 2007 I've actually 'seen' them on the farm- though I hear them all the time and see tracks constantly in winter and scat often. I don't think they generally stay quite as light as that- likely just youngster colouring.

Any recommendations for growing plants in the coming summer? (Preparations, etc)😄
@CohanMagazineАй бұрын
Hi! First off, where are you-- i.e.- what sort of climate zone, and what kind of things are you wanting to plant?
@champion123ty9Ай бұрын
I live in ottawa and I’m looking to plant common veggies. You know things like tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers.
@CohanMagazineАй бұрын
@@champion123ty9 ok. What is the current state of the land you want to plant in next year? Are the same things growing there now, or is it sod, or a weedy unused garden, or?
@CohanMagazineАй бұрын
I should try to get a vid or two up of me prepping a couple beds for next year. Lot depends on current situation though as to what you will need to do.

A fuzzy lingonberry?
@CohanMagazine2 ай бұрын
More like a gooseberry. Ribes species. Lingonberries are Vaccinium vitis-idaea, and as you probably know grow on little low-growing bushes with shiny smooth evergreen leaves. The gooseberries/currants have thin deciduous leaves-- usually lobed, kind of like little maple leaves, on much larger shrubs compared to Lingonberries (we call them low-bush cranberries here, but those common names can't be trusted...lol). The stems are usually prickly or thorny on these Ribes as well, I can't remember at the moment how prickly the stems of this species are..
@CohanMagazine2 ай бұрын
I realise it is nearly impossible to see what the plant looks like here since it is surrounded with other foliage, but you can see some leaves in this view that kind of look like small maple leaves- those belong to the skunk currant. The bush grows to 60cm to a metre-- several feet tall.

Oh man- I saw that typo 'reain' instead of 'rain' in editing, and I fixed it! 😂 So a) how is it still there? and b) why did KZbin choose that as the thumbnail? lol My first thought was Delete! and re-upload, but I just don't have time to completely re-edit (thumb, text, music) sorry for the eye pain...lol

Storms are so amazing with the big open sky, not so much seeing them here in the city
@CohanMagazine9 ай бұрын
Yeah, harder to appreciate them with a really close horizon! When I lived downtown in big cities, though, I did really appreciate weather/clouds/rain/snow/fog etc for helping me stay connected to nature! I took tons of photos in Toronto of the place where buildings, trees (another lifeline in the city!) and clouds/sky would meet- I always liked that zone where the different engergies connect.

You sure do live in the thick of the forest all surrounded and one with nature, I love that bit of a clearing.
@CohanMagazine11 ай бұрын
Thanks! It may be surprising to know that I'm surrounded by farmland! But luckily around here, there are good sized areas that are basically left to pasture without clearing, or only clearing certain parts, occasionally, so there's still lots of forest, and lots of natural vegetation :) Even in my yard, there are mowed sections, with native/wild trees throughout, and patches of native vegetation and shrubs here and there :)

Thanks- they sure are-- they aren't very afraid of people, and will fly close to see what you are doing, even out in the woods. At feeders they can become really tame. I think of them as a key Spirit of the boreal forest.
