Rev. Gary Davis I used to listen to every Saturday morning on Robert Johnson's Blues show on WDET-FM! What a wonderful memory this brings back! Such natural talent!

tremendous performance by gary davis .. and understand that donovan and shawn phillips are showing great respect and awe for the reverend ,, a couple minutes into the song ,, pete gets going and lets the fellows know that they can join in .. and obviously they enjoy it with their voices and their feet tapping along .

Love how many times pete tries to end the song. Rev is like...nope!

Gary Davis played at Elliot's Books in New Haven, CT in the early Sixties (long enough ago that smoking was still allowed -- even in a book store. I was fortunate to get a 2nd-row seat, and even more fortunate to eavesdrop on the Reverend, taking his break directly in front of me with his wife, being softly but intensely lectured about his indoor cigar smoking---possibly not for the first time =:^)---and his short, gruff replies. It was nice to get a glimpse of everyday life from someone I regarded as a musical icon and still do.

What an insult to Reverend Gary Davis for Pete Seeger to try and play over the track. He ruined it over the best filmed video The Reverend ever made.

The Rev plays Miss Gibson with such skill it becomes overwhelming!!! He has a whole band playing with him, it seems almost effortless yet so complex to anyone who knows anything about playing a guitar! Words can't covey what he has going on, it is stunning.

I just found out about him. I was reading about Tom Winslow, who had been a student of his. I met Tom a few times at festivals in the 1970’s and bought his Clearwater album from him. Tom is on KZbin as well and his daughter Thomasina. Sadly, Tom passed away a few years ago.

God bless Pete Seeger for having these phenomenal artists on his show back in the 60s.

Donavan is stunned that the guy isn't just playing three chords down in first position. Imagine? he is NOT playing just G D and A...God love yah Gary Davis... your ARE the man... Pick those strings pick em hard...!

The Lord is your friend. Give yourself to Him and sin don't matter anymore. It might take time to get on the straight and arrow and God knows I ain't right but every day I praise his sweet name AND I AM HAPPY. Hallelujah!

One man's powerful testament of pure faith on the Father's grace and inspiring this beautiful song. It's a damn near perfect message wrapped in song and lyric forms. Blessed are those who hear this and let spirituality and altruism grow in their heart. Shawn and Donovan are stunned.
