I live in the Midwest region of the United States, where VW cars are quite rare. In fact, I can't recall any recent VW models that stand out as exciting. None of my friends own a VW, either. Interestingly, about 15 years ago, the VW Passat was known as a high-quality car in the U.S. market. This highlights how much VW's presence has declined over time. Without strong, appealing products, any brand is bound to face serious challenges.

I don't think the quality of VW cars declined much over the past 15 years. The decline in the US has different reasons. The plant closures and layoffs have nothing to do with VW itself rather than the german economy as a whole. Once Germany decided to start sanctioning Russia and allowing the US to blow up Nordstream their energy cost for industry has destroyed the competitiveness of german manufacturing as a whole. Germany was once the engine of European industry and economy. Now it's a dead man walking.
