Hi there! Thank you for sharing your thoughts--I am really enjoying and appreciating the insight you've shared in each of your videos, especially this one! My children are 4, 2, and a baby--I'd value any additional wisdom you can share from your time schooling littles. Also, I've noticed beautiful bookshelves in the background of several videos, do you have any advice around building a homeschool/home library? And then how do you keep your library and additional resources organized?
@Home.School.andLife21 сағат бұрын
It is so encouraging to know that you are finding our videos helpful! Homeschooling during the early years is such a precious time! My advice is to not rush into academics too quickly. Enjoy things like being outside in nature, cooking in the kitchen together, playing, and reading books. If your little one starts to show interest in learning to read you could bring in things like letters or a phonics program. We both love books a lot and have been collecting them for years now. I personally thrift many of the books we own. I would have a running list of chapter books from curriculum booklist and anytime I was thrifting I would look for those titles. A few years ago we turned our formal dining space into a library and bought several bookcases to store our home library.

What is the Spanish one dvd like? I have found samples of lessons on KZbin. But on Christianbook they have a dvd separate that they say they have scenes acted out. So are they or is that the lessons? Because I’m just looking for some good acting out videos.

@@reflectionsinthebible3579 Hi! We didn’t use the DVD. We bought the online course through BJU that we get for 18 months. It has the lessons and then it also has some scenes where it shows the language /lessons being used in context. So- I’m not sure on the Christian Book dvds.

I agree with do one subject really well. My kids would say mines is Math and possibly history. Despite the fact I didn’t enjoy history as a child. Anywho, have you considered using Masterbooks My World Story 3. The author Angela O Dell has a website where she shows how to use it for high school. You can also just add in books (readers) from the time period as well instead of going back through SOTW.
@Home.School.andLifeАй бұрын
Hi! I think my kids would say my top two subjects are math and history as well! We did just pick the high school world history curriculum with Masterbooks that covers a large time period area. It isn't bad--- We just really love all the extra resources with SOTW and the chronological approach :) It isn't too hard to go back through since we've already used them twice. For whatever history time period we are in-- I always love assigning extra books for the appropriate age. There are so many to choose from! :)
@luvingthelord1Ай бұрын
I won't use SoTW. During Covid the author of those books was very outspoken snd appeared on tge more liberal view of History. 😮
@Home.School.andLifeАй бұрын
Hmm. Didn’t see that. We haven’t had an issue with the books we have. The teacher books have great “extra” enrichment ideas that have been helpful. When we got to some more modern hostory- a few of the books we used as supplements and aids were HEAVILY slanted towards what we considered untrue accounts of history. (It wasn’t SOTW) but - it did provide great discussion within the family and prompted some personal research from each kid- so that was actually an unplanned positive .

Would you say that one Notgrass bundle could be used for the entire family? I’ve got three daughters that I’m trying to teach History and Science family style, and Notgrass seems like a beautiful option if it’s doable to teach all my girls together. Their ages are 4, 7, and 10. Grades are K, 2, and 6. You guys seem to share the same homeschool philosophies that we do so I’d like to know what you think about doing Notgrass altogether.
@sarahphillips1270Ай бұрын
Also - have either of y’all tried Biblioplan?? That along with Beautiful Feet are my top contenders.
@Home.School.andLifeАй бұрын
Hi! Sorry for the slow reply. The holidays got us off routine. The not grass we used would be too advanced for your kids ages-- BUT- looking at the younger notgrass history- I think it would work perfectly for family style teaching. A friend of mine used it and has similar kids ages to yours and she liked it pretty well. The biggest thing to me would be doing research for book lists and adding in your own read alouds and fun assignments. For science - we have really liked The Good and the Beautiful and the Gods Design series with Masterbooks ❤️

@@Home.School.andLife we have done the Easy Grammar books forever. My kids wanted to try something different, because they felt like they were doing the same thing every day every year. We switched to something different and it isn’t going well for my 9th grader. It isn’t worth the anxious feelings he has each day, so we are making another switch. After Christmas break he is starting at the beginning of Fix it Grammar. Being that it is well below his level I plan to go through several days of assessments in one day , and possibly skipping some of the assignments if he completely understands the concepts. I’m starting at level 1 to make sure he gets the concept of the curriculum. We will most likely get through a good portion of the level 2 book as well before the end of the year. I also tried a new curriculum to teach my 7th grader about Arthropods. It was supposed to be just something extra and fun, but the main book has been miserable with way too much unnecessary reading. To replace it I purchased the Arthropod curriculum from The Good and The Beautiful. It just arrived this week and just by looking at it I think it’s going to be great!

@Home.School.andLife5 ай бұрын
No, we do not use an online program. My high schoolers do take a few online classes, but my younger crew only use the computer/tablet for typing and educational games/apps occasionally. In our state the only requirement is to turn in a letter of intent to homeschool to our local school district. All states have different requirements and you can find out what they are on the HSLDA website.
