I have had a washer and nut come off because it wasn't tight enough and the vibration of the tumbler made it come off sometime durring the week and I discovered them jn about the same spot yours were, either than or gremlins took it off jn the middle of the night.....lmfao P.S. @LizRocksAndStuff that is another I would like to try, when they do turn out they are stunning, I am finding myself being drawn to soft stones and wanting to come up with some ways to get good finishes more often than not, basically a giant science experiment in our geology based hobby 😂🤣

As far as I know, howlite is usually passed off as turquoise by dyeing it blue. I'm almost positive that turquoise is turquoise and howlite is howlite. I've tumbled howlite but not turquoise. It's very soft so it needs started out with stage 2 grit for stage 1. Some people say they can't get a shine but I've not had a huge problem 😊

Good to know! I was pretty sure that they were different. Maybe I'll give it a try, I've got a few tricks for shining softer rocks.

@LizRocksAndStuff totally worth it ...they're really pretty with the black/grey marbling 😊 I like to put them in mason jars with fairy lights. I pepper in other colored rocks ( just did one with rose quartz peppered throughout the edge) so it shows the colors off. Cool little night light...

Could you do a batch of fluorite? I have some pieces I really like but my first batch (least pretty pieces from the same bag) didn’t go great. I did the final polish in corn cob but it only got somewhat shiny. I want to start rocks I really like but I’m not sure where I went wrong and don’t wast to ruin them. I want to watch someone who knows what they’re doing and I like how you explain what you do and why.
@LizRocksAndStuffАй бұрын
I've done flourite in the past and it did not go well at all, episode 19 was the final reveal for them. After the corn cob they weren't even a little shiny. It's a tricky one that I have heard really should be finished in a vibe tumbler, which I don't have. I've been considering trying again, but I don't have any amount of confidence that it would turn out (though my success with the shungite has given me false hope). If I can find some decent ones maybe I'll give it another go.
@allensaucier7071Ай бұрын
Just learned a neat trick with Shungite at a craft show recently. was handed a piece of the rock, and told to try opening apps on my smart phone using the Shungite. Why is this possible? Was not interested in tumbling it till now. Have to give it a try.
@LizRocksAndStuffАй бұрын
My last batch turned out amazing! I've never heard of that before though. I'll have to give it a try. It's mostly made of carbon, I don't know if that would be why it works on smart phones.

Constructive feed back can go much farther than passive aggression and much much farther than "man-splaining". ... some people find being able to hide behind a keyboard as an excuse to be a turd, or "forget" how to be considerate/respectful. I for one have been enjoying catching up on past videos and learning more along the way.

You can't fill those tumblers that full and expect to get a good tumble....u have to give the rocks room to move around inside in order to get a smooth finish on them ya know....kinda like doing laundry ur clothes don't get clean if they don't have room to swish around! I would do about four or five rocks less in a tumbler this small!
@LizRocksAndStuffАй бұрын
I guess we'll see. I'm filling them about 3/4 full, as I've always done. They are shaping up nicely already and all the grit is getting broken down. This top down angle makes it look fuller than it is.

@LizRocksAndStuffАй бұрын

@shaewilson4503Ай бұрын
Love the longer video! I think the big chunk of obsidian will prevent action and the grit won’t break down.

@kcrazyandie74Ай бұрын
@LizRocksAndStuff i can appreciate that sooooo much! I have quite the wish list myself, and currently have 7 3lb barrels and a 12lb going as we speak lol
@LizRocksAndStuffАй бұрын
That's a lot of rocks! I only have these 4. Sometimes I throw something in my 1lb if I just want to do a small batch. I couldn't imagine having enough to fill a 12lb!
@kcrazyandie74Ай бұрын
@LizRocksAndStuff I don't run the 12lb often just because of the volume it takes to run it, and it plows through grit. My daughter and I got a bunch of agates and jasper that were just too big for a 3lb barrel so we got a bit more big stuff from a rock show hosted by a local rockhounding group. So far going on 8 weeks in stage 1.
@LizRocksAndStuffАй бұрын
That's....a long time in stage 1. I hadn't even thought about the amount of grit it would take to run it. Good luck with those!

I just do the dump water over them method using an old milk jug. But then I also have a second bucket with clean water that I put everything into after that. So I am doing a pour rinse and then a swish around in clean water rinse. Seems to work fine. But I have also been considering modifying my utility sink in the laundry room to drain into a bucket, then I could use the sink sprayer. I am not very fond of winter!
@LizRocksAndStuff2 ай бұрын
If we didn't use our utility sink, that would be tempting. I can try the poor then rinse method of nothing else works. I have at least a couple more weeks before I have to figure it out.
@shannalewis88752 ай бұрын
I have a 50ft flexible hose that hooks up to my sink. Being that it's inside, it doesn't freeze. When done, I roll it back up and put it in a reusable grocery bag and hang in my garage until I need it again.
@LizRocksAndStuff2 ай бұрын
That's something I hadn't thought of. It could work well. I'd just have to think of a way to get it outside without giving my cat an escape route.
@kcrazyandie742 ай бұрын
I have a fish cleaning station and love it, you may be able to just use your cordless pressure washer along with it until you can find a pump, instead of installing the spigot, you could run the hose for the washer through the hole.
