The opal feels very plastic. There are a couple rocks that are suspiciously the exact same size and shape and feel like resin to me. I'm not upset though, I got what I paid for.

That's probably right. It does look a lot like jasper.

I've not tumbled it, and I don't know much about it. Maybe I'll try as an experiment.

​@LizRocksAndStuff it is super soft, MOHS 5 and needs kid gloves even more so than obsidian. I may try again now that I have a bit more experience, the 1st time was like my 3rd or 4th batch ever, and tears were shed lol

I know that feeling! I tried flourite in one of my first batches and I can't get the courage to try again.

@LizRocksAndStuff that is another I would like to try, when they do turn out they are stunning, I am finding myself being drawn to soft stones and wanting to come up with some ways to get good finishes more often than not, basically a giant science experiment in our geology based hobby 😂🤣

Good to know! I was pretty sure that they were different. Maybe I'll give it a try, I've got a few tricks for shining softer rocks.

@LizRocksAndStuff totally worth it ...they're really pretty with the black/grey marbling 😊 I like to put them in mason jars with fairy lights. I pepper in other colored rocks ( just did one with rose quartz peppered throughout the edge) so it shows the colors off. Cool little night light...

I think you're right! That one did not look natural to me, and I'm not surprised that something like that was in there.

I think it'll be fine. I've had success with obsidian before. My main concern is that it's not as full as I would like.

I have put my bigger ones in potted plants. I've used smaller ones in resin projects. Mostly they sit on bins never to be looked at again. 🤣🤣 I have picked up the supplies to learn wire wrapping, but haven't had time to learn yet. It looks really cool.

This is the best comment I've ever gotten! I'm glad I could introduce you to something that you like. I would love to see your results.

I've done flourite in the past and it did not go well at all, episode 19 was the final reveal for them. After the corn cob they weren't even a little shiny. It's a tricky one that I have heard really should be finished in a vibe tumbler, which I don't have. I've been considering trying again, but I don't have any amount of confidence that it would turn out (though my success with the shungite has given me false hope). If I can find some decent ones maybe I'll give it another go.

My last batch turned out amazing! I've never heard of that before though. I'll have to give it a try. It's mostly made of carbon, I don't know if that would be why it works on smart phones.

I think it'll be awesome when it's done. I can't wait either!

Thank you so much! It's just part of being on the internet. There are always miserable people that have to tear others down. I don't usually think about it much, but getting two in one day when I'm already not feeling good was too much.

I guess we'll see. I'm filling them about 3/4 full, as I've always done. They are shaping up nicely already and all the grit is getting broken down. This top down angle makes it look fuller than it is.

That's very possible. I've tumbled a larger rock before and had that issue. I'm hoping that the smaller pieces and media will help.

I'm planning a rainbow quartz mix when I can find all the colors. I love agate and jasper together too. I've never tumbled serpentine, it's on my list though. Good luck on your tumbles! I love a good miscellaneous batch!

That's a lot of rocks! I only have these 4. Sometimes I throw something in my 1lb if I just want to do a small batch. I couldn't imagine having enough to fill a 12lb!

@LizRocksAndStuff I don't run the 12lb often just because of the volume it takes to run it, and it plows through grit. My daughter and I got a bunch of agates and jasper that were just too big for a 3lb barrel so we got a bit more big stuff from a rock show hosted by a local rockhounding group. So far going on 8 weeks in stage 1.

That's....a long time in stage 1. I hadn't even thought about the amount of grit it would take to run it. Good luck with those!

The plan for these is to use them in potted plants. I might also use some in resin molds.

If we didn't use our utility sink, that would be tempting. I can try the poor then rinse method of nothing else works. I have at least a couple more weeks before I have to figure it out.

That's something I hadn't thought of. It could work well. I'd just have to think of a way to get it outside without giving my cat an escape route.

That's a good idea. The idea of having a table to rinse at is very appealing.
