Nice Video ! From my personal experience I'd take out the bluebird servos and switch to savox I've had a couple bluebirds go out on me and cost me an airframe.
@4BrothersRC2 күн бұрын
Hmm, worth considering. Servos are a funny thing, one person will love a brand of servos and others will have a bad experience and find some other brand that proves more reliable "for them." I will definitely keep using these for now, but I will keep my eye on them.

sadly... you have created a surface that is more fragile than the original foam... but... what can you do right?
@4BrothersRC5 күн бұрын
True, but as long as it does't get damaged again it shouldn't be and issue, and after all it was purely cosmetic damage. The only true "solution" would be to replace the cowl and fuse entirely which gets pricy.
@mithrandir13135 күн бұрын
@4BrothersRC you could toughen it up with a thin layer of fiberglass... but gotta balance the effort with the results right.... it did turn out nice... and the DAP product does sand nicely..

Wing rock is a natural thing to happen. Heavy planes, nose heavy condition and poor wing airfoils make it worse. A good modern design with very light wings that stall evenly minimizes all that. As said earlier aft CG helps, but how far bak can uou go without being too tailheavy? What always works is to harrier steeper. Keel the nose up like 50 degrees almost to hovering and the air wash under the wings becomes much less. The danger for beginners is being too flat, right in the transition zone where the plane stalls, tip stalls can happen in transition. So get the nose way up, or just dance with your wing rock.
@4BrothersRC8 күн бұрын
Yes very true! That is the question, how far back can you move the CG back before the plane is too tail heavy to fly well outside of post stall conditions. The transition area is definitely the largest danger, I still need to work on getting the nose up higher, but it is a fine balance between high harrier and just hovering.
@Xplanker9 күн бұрын
Wing rock is primarily balance. Move the battery back
@4BrothersRC9 күн бұрын
Maybe so, but I am afraid in the case of purpose built 3D planes that rarely solves the issue, unless you mean lateral balance.
@Xplanker9 күн бұрын
@4BrothersRC I fly for Aj Aircraft, Extreme Flight and pilot Rc. It's always balance and setup that directly affects wing rock. You want the lightest battery possible with an aft center of gravity. You always want the most weight in the center of the Aircraft. Lateral balance these days doesn't mean much. Most of these companies weight parts. Straight edge wings like on the Edge 540s will produce the most stable post stall Flight over double tapered wings.

I have done this before ( along time ago ) only I used the same filler from the tub. I wanted to mention to BE CAREFUL on filling deep dents because the filler WILL ( in time ) start to fall off. Should the ground reach up and grab one of my planes and crinkle it to where there are DEEP dents I would fill this with many THIN layers . I didn't do this . I truly think this was the problem of it chipping off. Keep it in the air and fly it like you stole it .
@frwy110 күн бұрын
try to use water based light weight filler melted with some few water, apply it roughly with a paint brush,, Smootht the surface then sand with fine grain sand paper, you will add less weight to the model for the same results ;-)

Doesnt the spackle add unwanted weight to the plane?
@4BrothersRC12 күн бұрын
Yes potentially, but it is a pretty minor weight increase, no more than 20grams.

Well done, cool video :) An easy way to fly pop tops (at least with my favorite plane): start in level flight with some speed, pull inverted, and cut the throttle, immediately initiate a negative snap roll by applying full down elevator, full right rudder, and some left aileron.

My 67-inch Pilot RC Extra NG had wing rocking. Although annoying, it was self-correcting, so if you let the plane wing-rock nothing would really happen in the end.

were you able to tell if it added much weight?
@4BrothersRC18 күн бұрын
I don't think it added too much weight, since we used only enough to fill the voids and sanded off any that was unneeded, although in future we may use a lighter spackling.

I've been thinking about getting a twisted hobbys, which one do you recommend, and how much do you have into it
@4BrothersRC23 күн бұрын
You can't go wrong with any Twisted Hobbies airframe, but our favorite size is their 39 inch airfoil series and their XL series. The price can be a bit steep, we got ours for around $300, but we bought their power combo. We can attest to the quality of the servos they provide in the combo, I have 270+ flights on mine and the servos are still crazy fast and precise. You could use some cheaper servos and a sunnysky motor to knock the price down, but if you really want to progress in 3d getting their servos is the way to go. Hope this helps🙂

and the weight?
@4BrothersRC25 күн бұрын
Before and after the repair? I don't honestly think it added that much weight, we only used enough to fill the voids and scraped the rest off, so hopefully not drastic weight addition. In future we may use a lighter weight spackling for that reason though.

won't the filler chip off in time because the foam is flexible?
@4BrothersRC25 күн бұрын
I can't say yet, but the filler we used is supposed to not crack and be a little flexible. Only time will tell, but it has about 15 flights since the repair and it still looks great with no cracking or chipping.
