Have question: would you work a folded rim like this. Can't use a 16 circular too many stitches for hat. Thanks

What is the multiple
@ElizabethSmithKnits2 күн бұрын
Hi, it's a multiple of 4. All of the stitch and pattern details can be found in the pattern - here's the Ravelry link to it: www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/fire-and-rain

Thank you SO much for this video! I am a beginner knitter, and looking at other videos I couldn’t figure out why there were strands at the back. You take it from the very beginning so I can visualize how to get to the point where there are strands. Don’t know if that makes sense 😂. You have saved me lots of frustration!

you wouldnt like to put in some short rows?
@ElizabethSmithKnits2 күн бұрын
I wouldn't in a raglan sleeve construction such as this. If it were a set-in type of sleeve then yes, short rows would be good to shape the shoulder-cap.

That is completely genius.

Does the short row like this actually decrease the stitches number?
@ElizabethSmithKnits2 күн бұрын
Hi, it doesn't decrease the total stitches on the needle

Because you added an extra stitch do you knit 2 together to make the right stitch count?
@ElizabethSmithKnits2 күн бұрын
In my patterns I also include those 2 stitches in my stitch counts so if you're following one of my patterns you wouldn't, but yes - if following another pattern that doesn't include these 2 stitches you would want to work an extra decrease round so that your stitch count matches up.

I think this is the clearest explanation of knitting shirt rows. Thanks!

Great demo! I learned this as a child. I was taught CO, knit, & purl but no one in my family knitted, so I never saw anything made. A few years ago, I picked up some beautiful yarn when on vacation in Brattleboro, VT & the friendly people there got me started on a simple scarf. I was astonished to learn that my fingers still knew this cast on!

But how do you deal with the YO on the return row?
@ElizabethSmithKnitsАй бұрын
Great question! I should have included that. So on the return row, you treat it just like a regular stitch. So for example, if you’re instructed to purl all the stitches on that next row, when you reach the yarn-over (it will look just like a loop on the left needle), you’ll purl it just as if it was a regular stitch. This is of course unless your pattern specified differently. Hope that helps!

Thank you for this explanation of short row /wrap and turn because most gloss over important steps. I’ve been trying to make the Noro Water Lilies blanket pattern. The minimalist pattern along with absolutely no video tutorial clips make it frustrating. My question is: is it necessary to pick up the wraps in short rows done in garter or is it optional? In this demo, the picked up wraps look better. Also, if anyone knows of a site that shows clips of this Water Lilies pattern , kindly share a link.
@ElizabethSmithKnits2 күн бұрын
You're very welcome! Typically it's optional to pick-up the wraps in garter but in my experience it depends on how loose/tight your fabric happens to be or the type of yarn I'm working with.

Your work is absolutely beautiful. What the secret for smooth and even knitting? I haven’t been able to get there yet.
@ElizabethSmithKnits2 күн бұрын
Thank you so much! Over time with practice your stitches will get more and more even. Also though, some yarns just provide crisper more even-looking stitches than others (so I may have very smooth stitches in one yarn but not-so-even in another). Plus never underestimate the power of wet blocking! Many of my designs have very inconsistent looking stitches pre-blocked, but even-out SO nicely after blocking. I have lots of before and after photos on this blog post: elizabethsmithknits.com/2021/11/19/before-and-after-blocking/
