Im not a vegan, or animal rights nutjob or whatever. But I still find this super disgusting. There had to have been something else you couldve done other than PUBLICLY executing this animal. Even if it was privately done, I wouldve accepted that more than exploiting its death for profit.

Edison", although Edison himself had no actual involvement in the production.[1][2]

topsy killed a person before, attacked some nasty teasing humans before, and could not be given away. handlers fed her cyanide-laced carrots and strangled her with ropes, then electrocuted her. Edison himself had no association with this murder and in fact was ousted by the Board over 10 years prior to this. As cruel as this video was, one of the reasons why Thomas Edison himself was there filming it was because he was testing technologies on the condemned Elephant, to document any improvements to the electric chair, as he was one of the people behind the execution invention. It’s horrible that it was done this way. Animals should not be used for cruel and unusual experiments

Today I learned that she was named after a character from Uncle Tom's Cabin. A little enslaved girl and one of the most famous examples of the "pickaninny" archetype. That just add a whole new layer of fucked up.

By all accounts Edison was a complete b@stard of a man. From what I hear it’s because of him Tesla was stopped from giving the entire world free energy. Edison wanted to control it and charge for it so managed to talk all tesla’s backers. He’s probably looking up at us now from a very very warm place
