The GTR is a great car but I think you will find it wasn’t banned by its self for being too fast all turbo cars were banned for the up and coming v8 super cars. It took Nissan 3 tries to beat the RS500 and it took them a 2.6l turbo motor and 4wd to do it, pushing the group a rules to the limit. The group a RS500 had more straight line speed than the GTR, it was the corners the GTR was quicker because of the 4wd.

2 liter 4 cyl based off a Cortina block. Nissan had to pull out all the stops to beat a 6 year old car with 4 cylinder engine.

And thats before it was it was given heavy restrictions just to give the sierras and other cars a chance to be competetitive. The R32 was eventually banned from competeting. christiancosworth yes i have 4ybs but the escort yb isnt in one of the three cars one of them is an rs5001/2 in norway

The cossie is rwd so less grip in corners and putting power down, the gtr is 4wd so has better grip in corners and can put the power down without wheelspin

@@martinandreas6486none of the group a cars are built from road cars they are all built from motorsport shells. It’s still a RS500 as that’s the model they are based on. The VL walkinshaw commodores raced weren’t used from the 750 cars built for homologation but they were still called the Walkinshaw commodore.

The RS500 made Nissan went for 2.6 litre and 4wd for the R32 since the rwd R31 can't keep up with the RS500

But the cossie was a way more successful race car than the Nissan
