That's a beautiful bass, I've never seen an SUB that colour

Aw thank you! Funny story, when I bought it, it looked a lot darker on the pictures in the webshop, I was going for a more brown colour, so when it arrived, I considered returning it to swap for a colour I actually had in mind. However, that'd mean I have to repack it, drag the bloody thing to the nearest post office, do all the paperwork and since I was tired, I thought, ah fuck it, I'll do it the next day. When I got up and it was sitting on my standard, I looked at it again and thought "well, it does look kinda cool though..."...and as you can guess, I never returned it. I love the colour now, it's weird how these things change! :)

Nice nice yes I did notice the ultra processed typical pop synth bass that somehow sounds so great and satisfying in the og song :d we are seeing a resurrection of great basslines (funny enough almost all use octavers) in pop music and I think it is Dua Lipa's consequence, in a good good way cause woah i love me a funky bassline even if its not "real bass"; you did a great adaptation here, it is a tad difficult to make it from 5 to 4 string but dang you nailed it my guy :D
@ytbassmonkey12 күн бұрын
Aww thank you! Yeah, on the original song I think it's not a real bass, or a real bass that gets blended with a louder synthbass. Doesn't take away it's groovy - and yes - Dua Lipa started a bit of a disco and funk revival with her previous album, which I'm happy to see evolve: more funk, more grooves and mostly, less bored bassists! ;)

Hey! I used a VST Octaver and pretty much put the -1 Octave at around 50% volume, and all the other Octaver outputs to zero, and if the B1X has it, I put the Dry Mix slider at around 60% and that's all really, I just wanted a hint of what I was playing an octave lower so it sounds a bit more like a synth bass. @@ytbassmonkey i see what you mean, another way I think is better to just use what you have now, but remove the slide transition. the slide transition hides the notes for a moment and that is what's jarring about it, ironically the smoothness. Hey! Thanks I'll add it to the list of requests! I make most of the tabs myself, but if there's a tab publically available (on for example Ultimate-Guitar) I'll use that and correct if need be. If there's no tab, there I'll do it from scratch by using AI isolation software, so I can hear the bass better, and have the song without bass to record/practice to. I made little tutorial a few months ago that shows a lot of that process, so maybe that helps with answering some of your questions? :) kzbin.info/www/bejne/pn_cY2ecrtqDhq8

does anyone know how accurate this is to what the band actually plays live?
@ytbassmonkeyАй бұрын
I do! It's 100% wrong from how Sabrina's band plays it live, since...they don't play the bass live ;) They use a backing track, and not a bassplayer in sight! Having said that, my cover is defintely not a 1 to 1 cover, on the original track I'm pretty sure it's a bass guitar mixed with a synthbass, or it's just all a synthbass. Hope that answers some questions! :)
@daveweed2765Ай бұрын
You can play this song on a 4 string too. You just have to tune down a whole step and play the B an octave higher. It actually sounds pretty good. But as simple as it is it is a bad ass bassline. But to me the most simple basslines sound better than noodling. Went from guitar to bass 15 years ago and bass is a beast. And talking about triplets. Its not the same as guitar. But I do play this song with a pick. To me it sounds better. And no i usually dont alternate pick on bass. Some songs yeah. Its lik DA da DA da and so on. The only ACDC song that I alternate pick on with 1/8th notes is Shale a Leg. It sounds better and more in groove in the chorus. That is the DA and da I was tlking about on the straight Eighths with a pick. Distorted guitars just sound better with downstrokes. And everyone plays bass diffetent. In a studio a play with a pick. Even though at gigs I may play with fingers. Picking down always gives you a better sound than picking up. The strings are fighting gravity. Ergo the clarity. You are pushing them down and they are bouncing up. Instead of pulling them up and bouncing down. As basdists we really need to stand out and let "them" hear us. That is what makes a bassist. Play between the guitar riffs. Try it. Use more triplets instead of just at the beginning of the bars. Or use them throughout the whole bars. Let them hear you. If you are in a band for christ's sake add between the riffs. We play a guitar too and as long as you follow the drums you are good. You dont have to noodle or slsp. You just should want to be heard. Steve Harris and his gallop in Iron Maiden is nothing more than triplets in a Galop. But turned way up. But as a basdist you need to hold back too. Just try and see if triplets on the bars sound better. You may find they do and will make it a bass heavier song. Even mixing and matching the guitars and drums. Just sayin' but I am drunk. But it makes sense don't it?
@ytbassmonkeyАй бұрын
"Just sayin' but I am drunk." No way, it's not like you have a hint in your name that you like to partake in mild altering substances, right Mr. Dave Weed? ;) I'm just messing with ya! But you are right though! I tend to use a pick or fingers on what I think sounds best to me, and there's not really a correct or wrong view about it - if it sounds good, it's good! I use alternate picking mostly for ease and stamina, but you're correct in that downpicking or alternate picking sounds a bit different. In the end, I'm not a purist who thinks "this should be played like this or that!" As long as it sounds good, is fun to play and the listeners enjoy it, that's all there's to it, no? :) PS: You also double posted your reply but I fixed it for ya - let's still blame the alcohol! ;)
@daveweed2765Ай бұрын
@@ytbassmonkey LOL. I wish I could partake. Musics just my nightjob 2 or three nights a week and my day business subjects me to random drug screens. GAWD I miss the old days though. Lets face one thing though man and get real. No one ever pays attention to the bass. Well hardly ever anyway. But its definately an instrument you can add your own flair to.
@ytbassmonkeyАй бұрын
@@daveweed2765 Absolutely! You can add texture, harmonies, rhythm and more! Sprinkle in a lick or two and it can all be *chefs kiss*! :)
@daveweed2765Ай бұрын
@@ytbassmonkey Yep. I love playing bass a lot more than I did guitar. You can only add or subtract so much on guitar in a song before it becomes way too noticable. But you can add a lot on a bass cover and still sound good. As long as you are in the same tuning.you can play on the octaves and add slides up and down. A lot of songs that I play are in E. Its hard to slide down on an open E on a 4 string. Impossible but ending then hit the 12th fret and slide down. Definately not as goid as a five string with an E on the B string but still adds that dramatic instrumental ending effect to kill it and much better than hitting open E and muting. For an example of the dramatics and most people dont hear it but the simplicity Shot Down in Flames by ACDC. Its complicated but simple. You play the D on the A string but you have to hit the octave of the D on the twelfth fret and no one really notices one open A between the Ds then hit the A octave for two bars on the twelfth fret and slide down and hit the open A and let it ring. Then end the she song on the fifth fret of the E string and slide down and kill it with muting. Total brilliance. Three As in three fret positions on two different strings with two slides and an open string picked. Such a simple song but so complex. Forget tabs on that song. Forget the tabs on the choruses though. Do not use the A on the E string on the fifth fret when you got an open A string you can utilize and your left hand is free to pick your nose if need be. Forget what snobs say. Mostly its for ease. Never really cared so much about notes on a fretboard playing guitar. Even then tabs were wrong but again ease of movements. Ergo in an ACDC tribute band way back I paid for an ACDC bible. The tabs on Highway to Hell were so fucked up to play so... started seeing exactly the notes. Its all on that famous box of 14 13 13 13 14 14. Hell of a lot easier and faster to play. With bass? Brand new strings sound best but after a couple of days an A on the E string doesnt quite sound like an open A. The thinner strings really dont matter but if the note needs to ring then keep it as close to the nut as you can. Drunk again LOL but you prolly know all of that. But it sounds so good on the end if the bass slides down on the last note even if its an octave higher. Sometimes even sounds better sliding down an octave higher instead of hitting the note and muting.
