I've watched a few ssbu teching videos and none of them have discussed the option select or rhythm of it. That might not be the right word. But it's the right word for my main game series, Street Fighter. To tech throws in those games you press throw in rhythm with your opponent's block strings, but slightly later than their inputs. It is a system that reliably breaks throws on defense and is called "crouch teching" or sometimes "late teching". In SSBU I see top players reliably stage tech in situations where it seemed like an inhuman response time. Like when going off-stage to apply pressure but the opponent surprisingly hits you instead. With most up b's you can react to that. But with most normals, there's just no way. So to me, that tells me they're pressing the tech button EVERY TIME they get close to the opponent off stage, just in case, as an option select. Likey buffering it behind their own normals, anytime it's conceivable that the opponent could hit them. Why does nobody talk about this?? Am I mistaken?
@AkrozeSmash
@AkrozeSmash 3 ай бұрын
@@bestsnowboarderuknow Yes, you’re precisely correct, at least with the Teching. I was actually gonna make a video about this a while back, but when pro players tech with inhuman reaction they’re not reacting to the stage spiking move itself, rather they’re reacting to what the opponent does before then to see if they’re gonna try something. They’re being preemptive. Practice recovering, but hitting the shield button where you think an opponent would back air you. You’ll notice that unless you’re one of the few exceptions, you won’t airdodge and the game will pretend you didn’t input anything. But if you get hit, you’ll tech. Naw bro Link definitely has slingshot utility your just looking at it wrong. I'm pretty you think he doesn't because it's hard to make him move forward for hold shit but you can get enough movement to hit a perfectly spaced low on shield Nair from short hop everytime. You also can perform retreating bomb pulls, the added drift helps with juggling with Up Air and spiking with Dair. Retreating arrows. It helps mix up Links approach and enhance his movement when used with advanced specials like turnarounds, B Reverses and Wave bounces. There's so much I've been able to get out of SS that it's hard to remember it all up but I'm sure you get the picture. I've spent so many hours in the training room drilling variations to everything that I have ridiculous amount of control over Link. Like there's things I know that I shouldn't but here we are lol.
@AkrozeSmash
@AkrozeSmash Жыл бұрын
Idk IzAw told me that slingshot was bad for Link bc for him it’s just an iRAR or RAR. Link doesn’t really have the shmoves to put space between him and his opponent w hold or full shot, unless you’re going for a Fair. Retreating bomb pulls can be done with RAR with a more specified spacing, albeit at least a little slower. Same with the arrows, or if you found it easier you could jump dash immediately and turnaround B the arrow (that arrow option in general isn’t great tho compared to bomb) For Uair juggling and Dair spikes you can dash into it or micro space for the same effect, and btw Link can’t juggle most MUs, so for those ones most you should do is catch their landing w a bomb, boomerang, or grab/Nair/shield Up B/Fair at higher percents. B Reverses or wavebounces you can just jump back and do it for pretty much the same effect. This isn’t to say that your many hours practicing slingshot is useless, far from it. It’s just that all of the potential use cases for the tech you could and can do with something else, the difficulty of which might actually be easier.

@@AkrozeSmash as someone that spent thousands of hours training with Link, I can assure you SS is much more useful. And I'm sure you know Izaw can be wrong (said Steve would be a low tier around the time he made the Link guide) and with all due respect ... he didn't fully master piloting Link. I'm actually a better pilot than him. I would recommend checking out Prand Grix. That's who took me to the next level with bomb play and the more subtle controls with Link. This is why Japan is better than the West. Many of them take time to master everything their char can do instead of only learning what's considered useful and now the best player is a Japanese Steve main doing things IZaw never imagined he could lol. After him is a Japanese GnW main that pilots better than Maister From what I can tell you actually aren't a master pilot either. Your button mapping gives it away but the fact that Izaw is the source tells me you definitely haven't realized he was teaching you how to play like T instead of how to master piloting Link. Compare his playstyle to Prand Grix and you'll see what I mean. IZaw mentions how hard it is to get out 2 Nairs in one FH. He was right about that. It's quite tough to do but with SS you can do it Everytime without fail and it lands very low on shield. If you can see that then you should be able to see that this is something that takes more time to understand than what Izaw was willing to give. Im not going to try writing a whole breakdown on each segment because that would be a lot of in depth breakdowns of hit boxes, frame data, aerial drift, and influence. SS is so ingrained into my game now that I'd have to slow down my many situations to remember what led me to using the SS version or just using SS in certain situations. A lot of what you say in each segment is either flat out wrong or downplay of the difference between using SS in place of IRAR or Dash jump. I know that much from my own experience and watching others play without it.

@@s3eriousbl9ck26 Yeah no I’m definitely not a good Link pilot, not at all. I’m not even in Elite Smash; I just make these to help out my school’s esports team. My first (and so far only) tournament I’ve been to I got double eliminated in the first two rounds. So yeah, I’m going into this with the preface that I definitely could be wrong (like I was about IDJs and Link in my controls guide) How would SS help with FH Nair? You still have to avoid the same buffer window. Btw I watched a bit of Prand Grix and the hold shot boomerang looks pretty useful, but a lot of the shit he does I have no idea why anyone would do… My Discord is BroAkroze #1826 if you wanna talk there. I love learning this stuff, so if you’d be willing can you teach me?

lovely guide as always, nice pacing and explanations with practical practice routines & references...you can also do full-momentum / full-drift N-airs with Flickshot, altho it DOES add 1-4 frames of dash-back animation to the mix, but makes the window 'feel' a lot more forgiving. I do it by inputting A during jumpsquat of the Flickshot...you get this accidentally sometimes if you use the C-stick with flickshot but release the C-stick too early and end up with a buffered, full-drift N-air too. I'm not sure how useful that'd be to Link, but anyone with a floaty, multi-hit N-air like Zelda, Mewtwo, etc can benefit greatly from this IMO.
