Those giants definitely aren't simply fighting for "honor" imo. It seems like there is a larger theme of One Piece encapsulated in it. Vee is right to sense that in her comments - that they may be sabotaging their battles conclusion because they enjoy the never ending battle. If it comes to a conclusion it is over and they have to find a new stand in for their desire for Objet petit a (a concept in psychoanalysis), but I would add to her theory. I would add that the fighting represents the love or passion for life in it's struggle that Luffy represents. We can get pretty existentialist with it. :)

I think this certainly can be head canon HOWEVER i will say it could only be that because it is never expressly stated or hinted at that something deeper or perhaps not deeper but more then meets the eye is at play here? Maybe Oda did have that in mind but i dont think it can be said with confidence.
@qohelethsmind5 ай бұрын
@@ThePod-PodFruit I agree it definitely would be head canon that they were avoiding a conclusion to the battle, but I think the fight is still a mini encapsulation of the philosophy of One Piece. There are lots of instances where it is shown.

It may be a hot take, but at least with the anime something I really liked was the less high stakes environment of the East Blue. Reason being that the adventure is actually my favorite aspect of the series. Less so things like battles, though One piece makes those interesting enough with it’s variety of interesting things. Seeing the manga more than I ever did, now I am appreciating the art with you guys in a way I didn’t get to.

Im so glad to hear that! Yes the art is so good. The art in the manga blows the anime away at least at first. The anime does get better but ive heard plenty of criticisms about the early anime tho i think its... fine?
@qohelethsmind5 ай бұрын
@@ThePod-PodFruit I watched in the anime up to what should be 800-something in the manga. I just couldn’t continue due to pacing. I suppose objectively perhaps it gets better before the pacing gets even worse… I think I may have more familiarity and nostalgia for East Blue.

I think I’m with Vee btw. not thirsty. but Zoro in these early chapters is the best. I have restarted One Piece like a dozen times. Don’t usually get far and don’t remember if Zoro’s allure drops off. But I really liked revisiting picking up Zoro, and Sanji a dozen times lol

Dylan is just thinking of his time on the clock, and people who don’t pitch in like they should haha I definitely get it working in the industry as well. This is a boat they are on 24/7 as a rag tag crew. It’s different haha

I get it now, but I took like no naps through my 20’s. lt must not be the wounds. Zoro is secretly an ol’ man.

Great episode as always! note: it’s funny how easily ya’ll are “grossed out” at particular things over a few episodes, but I get it. Also how late 2000s constructs like “simp” or “incel” are related to characters when I never would have thought of it. It’s Not that it doesn’t ever apply, but I think for example maybe Sanji or even Usopp ya’ll may be a little too harsh on. I would compare Sanji’s simping to maybe old looney toons. It’s for comedic relief and part of his eccentricity. That’s my opinion though. I also think with Alvida, I didn’t personally interpret her comments in the chapter as being positive about her body before the devil fruit. Maybe, like with Buggy but less apparent, she needs validation because of an insecurity. Keep it up ya’ll! Those are a few of my constructive disagreements. I love the show and am reading along. *have seen the anime up to a certain point but the pacing of the anime became too much for me*

Thanks so much for the feedback! Kind words like yours really motivate the three of us! Likewise we love to hear counter takes and disagreements. Anything that makes us think a little more or a little harder. We are not opposed to reconsidering our opinions if a good case is made. I also think that we have some goated sanji moments ahead and cannot wait to see how Dylan and Vee respond. Appreciate you reaching out!

@@ThePod-PodFruit No problem! I was looking for a podcast to reminisce and revisit One Piece. Glad I found it. It’s of course a plus that being critical about the medium and presentation is encouraged. Rather than being a raging fan over everything.
@qohelethsmind5 ай бұрын
The “I just like felt like it” or simple villain motivation reminds me of the 90s Bond villain days. Sometimes it just works! Then we have Disney creating subpar movies like Cruella which are specifically exploring villains to complicate their motivations. Grey areas and complex motivations can work. It just all depends on presentation.

I love the way Dylan can recap what happened in the manga in an engaging way!
@qohelethsmind6 ай бұрын
apparently zoro/zolo is a translation discrepancy and it's usually considered to be "zoro". It's a funny bit that Dylan insists on "Zolo" haha
