So i'm about to pay off my truck im leased onto a company. I've had my own insurance for almost 2 years for the truck and the company holds the cargo insurance. I'm wondering like my insurance is like 430 a month right now. And they're telling me if I go out on my own and get my own trailer. It's gonna be like 2000 a month. 20 to 40000 a year. Which from what I heard in the past sounds pretty ride on. How are you navigating all this

Could you use someone to partner up with for a few weeks? I have a class A CDL and used to drive dump trucks but I’d like to run with someone for a few weeks before going solo. I could install a much better AC/heat system with APU than the zero breeze you have. Zero breeze is a terrible solution for comfort. Total in I could probably do it for under $2,000.

hauling hazmat tanker most of my life most of it in the oilfield excellent pay + night pay home every day but it’s hands on work , outside in the elements , for probably 2/3 of every shift keeps me in good shape /+ fit and going , especially since ‘m almost 60 now BUT that’s not everyone’s cup o tea if you only wanna pump a dock 1 or 2 times a week , and then just drive : this is not for you if you can’t handle heat cold dust humidity severe weather this is not for you if you can’t handle getting rough hands and wearing PPE nonstop this is most definitely not for you but if you can + wanna be home + make 💩load of money hazmat tanker is the way to go if I can do it , You can too

I’m a new authority. Power only. PETERBILT 579. I use a dispatch company to find my loads. They are reasonable at 5%. That gives me time to drive. I tell my dispatch rep my criteria. They find good power only loads. They also handle paperwork to my factoring company.

I once have load supposed to load at 3-4 i sat there for 1-2 hrs and guys just walked around me like i wasn't there . Wanted me to wait till 10pm-12. Would unload me. So i threw it on the ground. Took pictures and video of i left on shippers property. Went home. I mean its your truck and trailer.. if you was 4 days late think about that conversation. Once you get rate confirmation send it back with your rates per day all on same email so they have to open email to get signed rate confirmation. At that point they can cancel load or let you continue

It's not "Pittsburghs" fault when people rely 100% on GPS directions, especially if you're a truck driver. When I did OTO, I always recon'd the route/specific area beforehand. To many times, I followed the "truck route" just to find out that certain areas had restrictions or construction, all of which I could've bypassed if I would've known prior to getting there. I also looked at the pickup/drop-off locations/areas surrounding them. GPS will always send to the front door/main entrance, then you find out theres a trucks only enterence and/or now you have to zig zag through oneway streets to get to the loading/unloading zone. Just more reasons why I went to line haul. Terminal, highway, terminal.
