Cool upload. I noticed you were running friction shifter for front derailleur. Lance did that for the mountain stages of the TDF, I always presumed to save weight? But interesting that you chose that configuration for a crit. Any particular reason for that?
@jamiepaolinetti5087
@jamiepaolinetti5087 7 ай бұрын
Thank you! You are correct, the front derailur choice at the time was to save a little weight, but the more important aspect, (which Lance felt as well) was that those early models were not fool proof, and the place they suffered the most was that no matter how perfectly they were adjusted, now if the bike was under extreme stress they would throw the chain off on the inside when going from the big chain ring to the small ring. All it took was battling to stay in position for 10 miles to be at the front at the bottom of a crucial climb, then start going up it and need to dump it in the small ring at speed only to have the chain get thrown. BAM, now you're at the back. It happened to me once and I was like, "Nope, I'm out"... Eventually of course Shimano fixed it.

Crazy to see how the area of the wall changed compared to those times. The race made that entire neighbourhood vibrant and the people proud. Now so much has changed, starting with the road maintainance. To me that is a big sign of how the development in the area has been forgotten, shame for the residents.

Very cool to see. Especially in the era of "Netflix Flashy" sports docus. Amazing to see how riders' bodies have changed and sad to realize that the early 2000's must have been the heyday of cycling in the US. Where in the US do you see distance cycle races these days?

You are definitely right about a bunch of dopers in this film. The greatest untold story of cycling in America though is how many clean riders there were. And some of them even won races. I know it's not the "mainstream" or media view of the sport, but like with a lot of things they have been misinformed. Anyway, I hope you can enjoy the film for the spectacle of the awesome event and the memory of a sport that was once was great in our country and is now gone forever it looks like. Maybe on day I'll tell the actual story of doping in America.

outstanding, special breed to do this, having said that the body that runs cycle racing i this country have very limited vision, and we see that with the current state of the bike industry bike manufacturers closing or going bankrupt, I proposed that they be more inclusive when putting on bike races, I am not talking about gender stuff I am talking about weight, I begged them put on races with a class for anybody over 200 pounds, it did not matter male, female nor race nor what you think you are all you had to be is over 200 pounds for this division, well I was laughed at and take a look at the cycle world, sure there are plenty of cyclist out there but there would be a lot more if they had a over 200 pound weight division, I know when I was trying to compete I was buying a lot of merchandise to be competitive in categories I should not have been in, anyway I salute all that compete

Hi, I know it's not a popular answer, but our team was clean. It was doable racing in the U.S. then, but that's a story for another film. I'm working on it. From the late 80's when I first encountered doping first hand, to 2013 when I stopped racing for good, I've seen all kinds and at every level. Many, many guys raced clean and won races in America and they've all been thrown in the same bucket of shit with Lance and all his teammates. It's just not true. Europe is a different story. Thanks!
