Had to shoot 200 rounds then reload another 200 and reshoot them? Ahhh poor guy. 😂 Sounds like fun to me.. Awesome vid though mang. I'll check out your vids. Already learning a few things. Thanks

Hey RAD, I have a weird question for you. I'm wondering if you think it's worth the time to vacuum seal your ammunition in smaller batches so as to prevent any random changes to humidity levels of your powder over time. I haven't been able to prove this concept but in my mind it makes sense. I will typically load up 200 to 400 rounds at a time and that will usually last me a year or so. What are your thoughts?

If seating depth doesn’t matter, how does one determine the most accurately developed round for a particular gun?

A couple of points here.. the shape of the propellent grain is not an indicator of type. Double base propellent is also made in stick and flake form! A lot of ball propellant was made from old single base cannon powder! One of the most famous double based propellents, Cordite was made in stick form! My main reason not to leave powder in a measure is that it can result in cases being filled with the wrong powder. I know of two blowups that were down to residual pistol powder left in a measure being used to fill a rifle round. Always clear down any measures or containers at the end of a reloading session and return the components to their original packing containers!

I have been using the basic Lee Precision reloading press and dies for past 5 years. Reload 380, 9mm, 223, 308, and 30-06. In spite of it's budget Price, l get sub MOA precision. This single stage press may be a bit slower, but I enjoy the intimacy of handling every cartridge from start to finish.😊

THANK YOU for pointing out the faulting reasoning behind the velocity node crap (and more generally the absolute garbage reasoning that most reloading sources pander). That said, your example data is kinda extreme... it should jump out to everyone that the two groups of velocities are themselves quite spread out (es of 125fps on the left and 85 on the right). BUT that's not unrealistic and your point stands -- folks often just look at the averages to find a "flat spot" and forget that, in this case for example, you'd need ~350 shots in each group to confidently measure a 10fps difference in averages. The application of statistical reasoning in the reloading world is frightful.

The more I reload/shoot, the more I realize that basically all reloading “tests” are a waste of time/money. I think perhaps the only things that really matter are getting high quality components and bullet selection..

I started handloading 40 years ago and developed some very accurate handloads for .270 Winchester, .284 Winchester, .303 British, 7.65X53, 6.5X55, and .308 Winchester among others. All the loads I worked up were for hunting or milsurp rifles none of which could be misconstrued as target rifles. I did all that without knowing a thing about velocity nodes, barrel harmonics, shooting ladders, or which G model to use in calculating the BC of a bullet. What we knew back then was just about any rifle will shoot 1 to 1 1/2 MOA with a quality bullet, a full case of an appropriate powder (load density although we didn't call it that back then), and good shooting habits. The loading manuals had tables of MRT's in the back and we chose one appropriate to the area we would be hunting. I usually sighted my hunting rifles for two hundred yards which was virtually point blank range for any large game animal out to 400 yards. Later on, when I got into shooting milsurps accuracy was still important, of course but even more so was reproducing the same load as the military ammunition so you could use the original iron sights. Take the .303 British for example which I shoot in competitions. The MkVII service round developed 2,440 fps with a 174 gr. flat based spitzer bullet which is what I attempt to reproduce to stay in the iron sights classes.

Im new to reloading, 6arc, after I pour in the powder I put the bullet in upside down to keep track. When I pull the bullet out to load the round powder is stuck to the tip of the bullet, I guess static. How do I avoid static?

Thanks, Blake. Just picked up a Solus action after watching this series. Still in the break in period, but the RAD method of load development has been nothing short of outstanding. No load development using "break in" components yielded 1/2 inch groups and a 50 round SD of 8.8. Thanks again.

What about the action? That's the main event. Chassis? So what! How smooth is the action? How tight is the tolerance? How accurate is it with what barrel. The tape and the trigger thing. Stupid, come on. Sooo professional, lol
@Reloadingallday
@Reloadingallday 4 ай бұрын
Yeah! Let me give you a “professional” opinion on a brand new action that hasn’t got a single round down it 😂. What me to give you a subjective opinion on how an action feels? Lol you’d then be bitching about how “not scientific” of an analysis “feel” is on an action. Maybe let me get a few rounds down range before I give an opinion on something, unlike some who literally say whatever the hell they are told too😂 only if we had other videos a part of this series showing how it shoots…

Are velocity nodes real? Why would they occur?
@Reloadingallday
@Reloadingallday 4 ай бұрын
They appear due to low sample size testing. Conduct the same ladder test 5 times throughout a given day, your flat spots appear in different places. in other words, it’s placebo.

Quick load and other load software utilize internal case volume to determine and predict what the pressure and velocity will be. Changing the seating depth changes the internal case volume. Which changes the pressure which changes the velocity. Seating bullets further out of the case increases case volume, as a general rule lowers the pressure of the load, unless it is jammed into the lands, .All of that changes the vibration imparted on the the barrel. The way to make a barrel stiffer is to Shorten it and make it larger than diameter. That limits the vibration of the barrel. Barrel tuners can also affect the vibration of the barrel and may or may not improve the consistency of the vibration.
@Reloadingallday
@Reloadingallday 4 ай бұрын
The vibration you’re talking about, rise to peak pressure isn’t consistent. Because we aren’t shooting lasers. To that regard, you’d never be able to predict a “node” yet alone “time” muzzle whip since that is the case because all of our velocities aren’t going the same exact speed. To the other points you made about tuners, Bryan litz and jayden quinlan have both debunked the theory statistically via large testing in regard to tuners. Harmonics are not a dominant driver to precision. When ballisticians talk about seating depth they are not talking about it in a vibrational sense, they are talking about it in a mechanical sense and the way it aligns with the centerline of the bore. More common things that effect precision that have been proven since the 1890’s by Franklin Weston mann, Johan Lanhous, the reason the hybrid bullet was invented by litz, etc is due to bullet tipping in bore, unbalanced bullets, bullet shape, chamber dimension influences the relation of how the projectile is situated to centerline, etc. these are all basic problems to dispersion issues on target.
