With this mounted as you have pictured, will it knock the frame if the bars are twisted all the way round? I fear in a heavy crash, that this would spin with the bars and smack the frame cracking it etc. I’m about ready to pull the trigger on it to try it but worried about that risk should something occur
@TheMarkList7 күн бұрын
@@anthonynazzal1958 let me see what happens when I turn my bars all the way to the side. Also it moves if you hit it on something just like your stem will move a bit side to side when you crash
@anthonynazzal19586 күн бұрын
Thanks! Also, next time you talk to the guys there, you may want to see if they can design the unit to fit into the bottom of the fork steerer tube perhaps? There’s a lot of dead space in there and that would be directly in the path of the vibrations moving upward, which might (or might not?) improve the overall feeling? Similar to how a mass damper in a skyscraper is situated in the middle of the building etc. I have an Orbea with the proprietary stem and spacers unique to Orbea so using this mount regrettable won’t work for me unless I swap out everything to a standard stem etc but if it could slide into the bottom of the fork steerer, oh man, golden. Absolutely universal then for tapered forks !
@TheMarkList5 күн бұрын
@@anthonynazzal1958 I know rimpact is doing that currently, but it looks small and maybe not enough force or the right frequency for downhill or super rough terrain. @keirfarnum68117 күн бұрын
When I raced XC in Alaska during the 90s, some of our longer races were essentially gravel races on dirt roads; but I would never want to ride a gravel bike on them because of the washboard. That stuff is BRUTAL! You can be cruising along at 16-18 mph and his that stuff and suddenly you’re just trying to slog through it at 4 mph. Something about the frequency just slows the bike down massively and quickly. The actual size of the bumps isn’t really as issue and shouldn’t slow a bike down at all; but when it’s a series of them, it’s like riding in quicksand. I really have to wonder if one of these tuned mass dampers might make a difference for that kind of washboard and might make riding an actual gravel bike on Alaska gravel roads feasible. Barring that, I would rather be on an XC bike with drop bars for those roads.
@TheMarkList7 күн бұрын
@@keirfarnum6811 I would say yes.. Especially if the frequency of the damper is tuned correctly. The guy at CounterCycle spoke specifically about what you brought up. Washboard situations where the bike is bouncing so much that you're kinda floating up on the peaks of the washboard... That shouldn't be happening and the tuned damper eliminates it.. I've been riding faster and faster on a local double black and my PR has changed almost every time down it...

Most people don't have balanced suspension to begin with unless they are using telemetry to tune it...think of it like every time you hit a bump and the bike wants to push up towards you, someone is pushing down on the bars at the same time.. It actually makes your suspension work better.. I'll explain more in my next video about it.
@LaurentiusTriarius11 күн бұрын
Forget pinkbike chit chat... The idea of a tune mass damper is to find the location of unwanted frequencies and then absorb them, you need a microphone and an oscilloscope to locate precisely where to put it on the frame, also what mass and "fluid" viscosity to use to effectively manage the unwanted frequencies and convert them into "inertia"...
