Hi, Chris. that's most impressive. Can I ask how you made the solar oven? Is it simply a wooden box or did you use any kind of insulation for the chassis/body? Also, how did you form the four-sided mirror attachments? I'm going to have a go at building a solar oven myself and would appreciate any tips you might be able to offer. Cheers, and thank you for the inspirational videos.

Chris, that's absolutely brilliant, really great work. You're doing an amazing job demonstrating that energy-saving, solar cooking is a viable option in the UK. Thank you so much for the advice with the oven. Just lastly, could you please tell me what you are using for the lid? Is it (a) Standard Glass, (b) Tempered Glass, (c) Perspex or Plexiglass? I'd be very interested to know what works best for the lid. Thank you once again for your generous help and advice. Really appreciated 😊👍

@@neilsmith9473 6mm Perspex and after a few years I added tempered glass on the inside of the lid. Enjoy Neil have fun.😊

@@hermanlily1313, that's great info. I was considering doing the same. I'm putting together a panel cooker to try things out with then I'll be building a box oven as a phase two. I'll let you know if I post the results. Thank you so much for all the great help and advice. Your channel is great and an inspiration to people wanting to solar cook in the UK. All the best to you... :)

aluminium is toxic you dont want it leeching vapours near food causes dementia alzeimers cancer makes body toxic from the metal you want stainless steel only
@hermanlily13134 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the recommendation Celtic H but alas I was raised eating food cooked in aluminum pots! but I reduced the vapors by heating the solar oven for days before cooking anything plus the food has a lid on the iron enamel pot! because of the cooking proses, the steam and vapors from the food only exit from the pot, not allowing anything to go in the other direction!

Hi and Thank you LoLo Sunshine. in the video, there is a clip where I say and show the thermometer at 160c it was a cloudy day so when a cloud passed over it fell slowly to about 150c till the sun would show and the temp would return back to 160c since then' I pour out the stock after 2 hours then that allows the chicken to go golden brown! :-)

Love the video. Pls show me how to build the solar oven and can I use Glas in stead of Perspex? From South Africa. Just preparing for when gas runs out in coronavirus lockdown. May Yehovah Tzevahot have mercy on us all. Shabbat Shalom
@hermanlily13134 жыл бұрын
Yes you can use glass but it needs to be toughened glass if you use perspex it needs to be at least 5mm. the box is 18mm plywood with cardboard insulation! Covered with aluminium foil.

All you people who demonstrate solar ovens fail to put a meat thermometer in so we can see if it has reached the correct temp.

@hermanlily13137 жыл бұрын
Hi Jennifer! The pot is 2 deep baking pans/trays one on top of each other.I got mine from a bricabrak shop .The box is fairly easy if you are good with your hands or know basic wood craft you need a saw a plain drill and screw driver! :-)
@hermanlily13137 жыл бұрын
lol, you can try it with cardboard scissors first to get the hang of it, it will still cook very well! once you got how it works you can then worry about making it with wood! are you in the UK? you can join our facebook page Solar cooking UK lots of help there! have a lovely Sunday Jennifer! :-)

hey a tip. get the plastic out of tge screen of a projection tv. place it over your cone thing amd i believe it would heat up fast plus way more heat. to fry with solar get large metal area and place tge plastic like a magnifying glass on one point. it will heat the hole metal.
@hermanlily13137 жыл бұрын
Hi Chris I have heard this suggestion before but it will not add more heat unless it is a greater surfice area than the reflecktors! It is good for a focussed point of light in a small area which is good for an expresso coffee but does little to roast a family meal! i have a screen from the tv and i found this to be the case. Thanks chris for the suggestion have fun with the experimenting! :-)
