It can get expensive to have someone restore it. And, even restored, that radio isn’t worth a lot. 0:44 If you want a vintage radio you can listen to and enjoy the age & beauty, search EBay or Etsy for something electronically restored.

I picked one up in working condition for $20. I am not a fan of the design at all. What should I do with it? Sell or repurpose?
@hobknobradio551121 күн бұрын
My apologies, I had forgotten what type of connection that particular radio had. There is a two prong receptacle on the right lower side (viewing from the back). You will need to find a connector/adapter with the 2 prongs that converts to a 3.5 MM female jack. I’m not 100% sure this is the one, but this is generally what it would look like. www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/curtis-industries/5521TIP-EX/3927292?PMax%20Shopping_Product_High%20ROAS%20Categories&EAIaIQobChMI4djewvz3hwMVsDnUAR3GQw1aEAQYBCABEgIrPvD_BwE&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADrbLlj8vGK3ALokrUoICQscPl3s6&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI4djewvz3hwMVsDnUAR3GQw1aEAQYBCABEgIrPvD_BwE

NICE! Exactly what I aspire to with the one I recently pulled out of my late uncle's attic. Is that the dark walnut finish? If so, that's the color of mine. It is in the original box with walnut marked on it. Mine has connections on the back for "stereo" speakers but I don't quite get how that would work since one would have to be for the ground wire. Ditto for the single RCA phono input. When you have the iPod connected, is there a way to put it in mono mode? Or does the adapter have a built-in mono mixer? Anyway, no power at all on mine, so either a broken switch or dead power tube. Winter project.
@hobknobradio5511 Жыл бұрын
Hi, congratulations on the find, they are great sounding radios. 1. Mine was walnut 2. I don’t recall the configuration of the jacks in the back for remote speakers. If they are RCAs, the ground is the metal outside of the jack and the channel input is the center pin, so any speakers that have RCA outputs should work fine. 3. I use these jacks to convert 3.5 to RCA a.co/d/97tHFRI Although you are losing a channel, the sound is usually very good. If it’s not good enough for you, you’ll need to build a stereo to mono adapter. From your device output, the ground will go directly to the radios input ground. Then add a 1000 ohm resistor to each output wire, tie the other ends of the resistors together and send them to the center pin of of a male RCA jack. Hope this helps.
@myleftthumb2294 Жыл бұрын
@@hobknobradio5511 no, not RCA jacks for the speakers - just a pair of screws and neither is marked as ground, so it would be for one single external speaker. But the odd thing is that it says "stereo". The only RCA jack there is for the phono input.

I ordered a dial from RadioDaze for my 1400H and it was just a dial with no cover, didn't see any like this. I ended up making a cover from a strip cut from a Smart Water bottle. Were they originally like mine or yours?
@hobknobradio5511 Жыл бұрын
These Stromberg models had a couple of different dial face configurations and colors. The one on my video was the original on that particular radio. The dial faces from Radio Daze come flat and you have to carefully bend and round them to get them in place. If you received a glass faceplate that was an error. If it was plastic, it needs to be bent into place. I am not aware of any models that were built with a flat inner faceplate and a clear external one.
@keefmeister77 Жыл бұрын
I have seen some that have separate dials and covers. My dial doesn't look wide enough to fit, but the water bottle strip fits perfectly.

They are nice sounding radios, glad you were able to pick one up. I've had a couple and the biggest problem seems to be getting a good connection between the Loctal tubes and sockets.
@ronalddaub9740 Жыл бұрын
@@hobknobradio5511 when I got mine somebody had run two separate outside wires to two of the pins on one of the power tube. Upon inspection one of the transformers was unhooked either by mistake or just came unhooked or unsoldered from the switch. Seems they were powering the grid from another source for a while or something or the heater

That’s a nice performing radio there. I collected, repaired most, destroyed a few in my younger days of experimentation and learning. I had a whole house full of radios and television sets to the point of my home looking like a museum! I got rid of all that as I got older and I do miss some of them. For me, I never made a dime from the hobby but I loved every minute of it. I just stumbled across your channel or should I say it found me? That G E radio you shown today looks really nice.enjoy the hobby while you can as life sometimes gets in the way and you just got to go with the flow.
