Really cool to see you trade futures. I gave it a shot last year on Ninjatrader, was kind of fun but I missed that option chain..got into futures options after that on IBKR, i think i liked trading CL and the bonds more than the index futures, especially NQ..idk what it is but i find NQ harder to trade than NDX options. I was surprised to find out i was a little bugged out by seeing my actual order on the chart...as with options i never look at the options chart and as you know lightspeed doesn't have those. Oh yeah, the whole leaving bracket limits out there, Ninja trader desktop has it so when you close out an order with brackets, it doesn't leave those limits out there. I had thr same issue on the web platform where it left limits out there... that's dangerous because i believe those are actually broker side limit orders not platform side, so you shut down and accidentally leave them out there, they can get fulled during globex. Since you have a Tradovate account, you also have a Ninjatrader account as ninja bought them out and merged everything. So if you want to use Ninja desktop (i think its better than the web platform) you can download it, use your tradovate credentials to use it.

Are you using Tradovate? Ninjatrader is a hot nest of bugs, and they also own tradovate.. It really takes all the fun out of futures trading. Only trade micros while you are learning. You can't blow your account if you are trading 2 micros.

I trade futures as well and sadly I'm not consistently profitable. I'm pretty much break even and still trying to find my trading strategy so take this with a grain of salt. I have a Level 2 DOM so it shows order blocks for something like 5 points above and below the current price. I always mark previous day high and low as well as premarket high and low as they are likely to be support and resistance. The indicators I use are volume profile, cumulative delta, volume, ema 9 and ema 22. volume profile shows where the most trades took place in a histogram that runs vertical at the right side of my screen. Basically it prints levels that are likely going to act as support or resistance. The bigger the bar the more trades took place and where more trades took place is likely going to be an area of support/resistance and a potential target if you follow the trend. Cumulative delta prints a chart under my main chart(not the histogram version) and shows how many people are hitting the market sell and buy buttons. It can be used to confirm a trend or show strength and weakness as well as divergence in the price. Up trend and delta shows green bars rising= strength but uptrend but delta stars showing less buyers and leaning towards sellers then weakness and possibly a pivot. People already know what volume and emas are. If you are going to trade real cash while learning then trade the micros so you don't blow your account. Set an order bracket!! use 1:1 or 1:2, 5 points in either direction or 5 down 10 up. Also set up your brackets with and OCO so that you don't enter a trade because you have a stop still in play. The NQ and ES are very crowded so the price can move quickly and there is a lot of noise. Having the order bracket upon entry means that if the price moves right after I enter then I can only loose 5 points. I adjust my ratio from there to what my actual trade will be. I will manually trail my stop and adjust my take profit to the target typically to a level indicated with volume profile or one of the highs or lows I previously marked. I like you Clay and I found your previous videos informational but did you really pass the evaluation phase or did they give you a funded account since you are a youtuber with a large following?
@claytraderКүн бұрын
Thanks so much for all the thoughts! I appreciate you taking time to do so. This is just an eval account. I didn't ask for any special treatment lol

Select the gray circle next to the ticker symbol and select the same color to sync your chart and DOM. Your DOM and chart were on different tickers the entire stream. Also the the opening is a pure gamble and candles are huge which can produce a nice quick profit, but I'll scalp super tight at the open to not get trapped but normally I'll wait 5 min sometimes even 15 after the open to let the market direction take shape. Flush and push and blow off's and flushes are common at the open. Lot's of liquidity grabbing and the futures. Good luck, looking forward to seeing your progress in futures

Thanks for feedback!
@FRYMJAMESКүн бұрын
You can also place stop orders and limit orders right on the DOM. I find it better than just using the chart or the green and red buttons. I will also adjust the DOM settings so it places the stop or limit order based off of the order being above or below the current bid/offer. That way you don’t worry about it except if it’s a buy or sell order.
@claytraderКүн бұрын
Thanks. I need to look more into the DOM for sure.

Your style of trading with that platform may be beneficial to use the "ATM" feature where when you enter the trade it auto adds your stop and take profit. So if you were looking to scalp just a few points this may benefit you as it happens instantly. I use the same platform and this is a strategy I use when I'm scalping. Also you can add "order lines" that will extend a green or red line across the screen to help you see open orders which may have helped in this case here.
@claytraderКүн бұрын
How do you add order lines? That'd be very helpful.
