James Ehnes is World Class! I knew him at Meadowmount and he has really taken off the last 10 years. He is in Beast mode along with the rest, Hahn, Hadelich and more! I wish he was coming here. He might be. Who knows?

Fine conducting. But he does not draw the earthy sound that this symphony requires. Part of the problem is a pale viola and cello section and insufficient integration of the woodwinds.

If you can, can you please do Star Wars: A New Hope? And if so, I really hope this is possible on Star Wars day, May 4th. I love that you're doing The Empire Strikes Back though! I also hope Return Of The Jedi is in c9ncert, since you've done all three last year! :D

It is super to have a symphony orchestra backing up a band. Great respect the indigenous people

I was listening to this in the background while I worked, when I heard the line "I would wait for you to arrive with kibble and a box of beer" and realized it was a song from the perspective of a cat. This is maybe the most beautiful and sad song I have ever heard.

Out of all the memorable VSO concerts I've attended in my lifetime, the one I wll never forget, the one that rejuvenated my spirit, after years on the hard grind, was sitting at my usual seat at Roy Thomson Hall and seeing Bramwell Tovey conduct Shostakovich's 5th in D minor in Toronto (I think it was back in 2009 maybe). The energy he displayed, the trust and respect he showed his 'players', was something to behold that night. He looked like he was born to be a Maestro the way he carried himself and the VSO through that music . I think he left the VSO very well positioned to keep moving forward. And what a wonderful story told here in this clip + footage.

Both camps could appeal to Beethoven - but which Beethoven? The composer of the classical 8th Symphony or of the more radical 9th?

I got to play a Hamburg compared to a New York, and what a difference. If you’re into Bösendorfer or Yamaha CF as I am, then a Hamburg is for you. It has that extra level of richness and has that punch making it perfect for concert halls, whereas New York’s are too mellow in my opinion. Ian Parker describes it perfectly in this video starting from 3:06 and on. 😃
