I very much remember the first time I saw Killer Instinct in the arcade. It was at a place called Outer Limits just outside of Washington DC. It changed my life not because I kept playing it in the arcade but because it sparked my interest in computer technology. I give it some credit for driving me to eventually become a network engineer for a Fortune 50 company here in the United States. By the way, I still play video games although I like old and new almost equally.

@@furballbear That's awesome! It's wild how many things were created with an assumption that it would be here-and-gone, but ended up inspiring us or in some way really having an impact outside of just "it's a fun game". I think of people like Mick Gordan who I believe said KILLER CUTS was a big influence to him and then it comes full circle when HE ends up composing the music for KI3.

Both KI and KI2 were really important to me,especially in the arcades. I still blast Killer Cuts on occasion. That soundtrack is something special! I really appreciate your commentary. I’m a similar age and grew up in the arcades so it felt very familiar. The hype from the arcades cannot be beat. When KI2 would get louder as you got closer to the final boss to draw people’s attention it really made you feel like a boss.

And even finding arcades these days (while awesome) still doesn't match the feeling of NEW tech and NEW franchises showing up out of nowhere! 30th anniversary? Wow, such a long time ago! How amazing you still remember all of the moves that all of the characters had and you still memorize every single combo! It's just muscle memory, the more you play since the 90's, right? Lol. You're better at K1 and K2 than me. In 1994, 13 year old kid at my arcade back in the day was amazing at this and I spent so much of having 25 cents in the arcade on this game. The backgrounds just looked so different and the characters were so unique. I remember when Donkey Kong came out on the SNES, I rented the SNES version of Killer Instinct and we (my brother and I) enjoyed it. The SNES port looked great for a SNES game but the graphics paled in comparison to the arcade. Character models, frames, backgrounds, speed, the sound, everything. I recall arcades being 25 cents to about 1990 and then were 50 cents to about '96 or something. MK4 was the first 50 cents I remember playing at the arcade in the mall, but my brother told me the game was Dragon Lair and some games in the 80's. I was surprised that the KI and KI2 arcade didn't cost 50 cents. It's so great to see you play this game in your area! I miss those days in the 90's!

Yeah, I remember all these games because of when I learned them. Whatever memory space was reserved for geography or history got filled up with MK and KI Finish Moves! First time I saw DKC was on a demo station setup in the mall. I just so happened to walk up as the RARE logo was on screen. I was like "THOSE are the guys that make KI... what is this?" and so I had to have it. Amazing game! Most of the time, I saw these games for 1 credit. Certain places it would be 2 but it was the 4 credit games that hurt. Fortunately that was mostly the racing and shooting games. I do remember VIRTUA FIGHTER 3 being like 3 or 4 credits though.

I'm finally sitting down to watch this. Thanks for the shout out in the beginning! (I’m commenting as I watch so this comment is going to be a mess!) The rambling is great btw, I’m enjoying just hearing the stories. It’s taking me back to those days and it’s nice to hear how people have had similar experiences as I have. It was so cool being the best KI player in your area, I miss it. Drawing a crowd just to watch you play made me feel like a celebrity haha. Once I get online I realize there’s so many better players than me, it’s humbling! As far as I’ve read and heard this is the first game to have a hard drive which is why it was more expensive for arcade operators to buy than other games of its time. I still haven’t been able to get a concrete price for the machine when it was brand new, I’ve heard $4995 and even up to $6495. That must have been a crazy investment in the 90s but after buying a few real machines you can see they made way more money than that by checking the coin meter in them. My KI2’s meter shows it made over $32,000 and it spent half of its life in someone storage unit. Now I’m rambling! Haha The burp and fart finisher is hilarious and I don’t care what anyone says! Tattoo Assassins took it way too far, KI had tasteful gas passings lol. I loved the modern day gaming rant. I hate how modern games feel like a second job. They want way too much of our time. Arcade games are pure magic because you’re in and out of the experience quickly but it’s still entertaining. The 90s was the last fun decade! Everything since then is ultra serious and if you’re not borderline depressed by everything going on in the world you’re a bad person. The MK1 stuff was frustrating when trying to google anything about the original arcade. I wish theyd just go back to the original style, old button layout and a simpler game. They won’t because they need to sell the game at $70 plus DLC. The gaming industry has gotten to big, way too much of a corporate machine that’s 100% profit driven. The movie industry has all but died with that same model. You’d think they’d see that and change course. I didn’t know anyone as a kid that was really into arcade games. I usually went to the arcade alone and didn’t get to nerd out of the games with someone. It’s probably why I’m a loner today. I enjoyed this one, I’ll expect another video at the 40 year anniversary haha!

@@longWriter Short answer, yep. Long answer...In default gameplay without meter, 4 characters in KI2 have no projectiles: Maya, Tusk, Sabrewulf & TJ. With Super, Sabre gains a projectile. So really just 3 characters. Now, when it's at the end of the fight and the opponent is on danger, all 3 of them have a full screen NO MERCY. TJ has his gun, Tusk meteors, Maya dagger toss. But I wouldn't really count those. In KI1, TJ and Cinder were the only characters who didn't have true projectiles, but Cinder at least had a couple flame attacks that countered incoming projectiles. So in that, I would same TJ was the only one.
