Very well done! Teaching is difficult and you have done a wonderful job of making this clean and not stressful to understand! Counts are clear, movements are clear! I get lost with too much over explaining in other instructional videos! ❤

In the Fred Astaire Dance Book, the Promenade Walk is known as "The Conversation". This is how I got introduced into the Smooth Style (also known as American Style) Foxtrot. Also, the "SSQQ" is also known as "magic step timing". This also happens in the so-called Side Sway figure.

Thank you very much for providing this great tutorial! We are usually not taught such figures in Europe at social dance courses because they are part of unpractical slow fox competition routines. Glad that you provide us with such a nice option to include this into a normal social foxtrot! Greetings from Austria

ss qq is confusing to beginners who are new to full counts and half counts. qqs s is a better clearer rhythm. It's a triple step followed by a single step.

Thank you for this video. I like to see the steps in motion over just a demonstration of what or how to do them. Some the names are different from what I learned them as but that is no big deal. I always felt, and still do, that any change of footwork / syncopation, should be the responsibility and done by the leader. I will again say thank you for this useful and informative video.

i suggest the the leader change steps rather than the follower in shadow position. Why? Let the leader lead, and the follower just follow. The leader knows what is about to happen and the follower, especially if unfamiliar, will not know.

Best video so far on this dance…..don’t know why but sometimes as soon as you put a mike in front of someone, the megalomaniac gene kicks in…..or you get a history of the subject. Don’t want any excess material…..just show me how to do the dance step.

Is it easy to dance Viennese after learning American? I'd prefer to learn Viennese, but I'm currently back in the states.
@bucketlistbuddies

Viennese Waltz is quite a bit faster than American, so the technique is slightly different, and it’s more difficult to pick up for most. Knowing American waltz is definitely helpful though! We’ll try to make more Viennese Waltz videos soon!

Thanks for this very helpful video! I'm wondering… why does the pattern begin and end in diagonal wall position? Does it really make any difference? Also, why are the names "hockey stick" and "fan" used? Thanks!
@bucketlistbuddies
@bucketlistbuddies Жыл бұрын
Hi, @learnwithjeff6110! According to the theory book we study by, fan commences facing diagonal wall against line of dance, and hockey stick ends facing diagonal wall against line of dance. So for syllabus, that is the technical way to dance it. However, there is no problem with beginning or ending with a different alignment for open or recreational dancing. As for the names, those are the syllabus names given in the book of technique. Hope this helps!

Jive & swing are not the same thing

Is this not swing? I noticed their styling was different than what I am used to, but the steps are the same as East Coast swing. What's the difference between Jive and Swing?
@bucketlistbuddies
@bucketlistbuddies 11 ай бұрын
Great question! Jive and swing are very similar, and many swing steps are also jive steps! Triple Swing has different technique, and is much slower than Jive. When it comes to competition, Jive is an international Latin style while Swing is an American Rhythm style, so they are danced in different competitive categories. Hope this helps!
@805acroadict5
@805acroadict5 8 ай бұрын
@@eamonburns9597 Jive is a regulated dance in a competitive ball room system which includes 5 different named dance styles in that system. Jive most noticeably leaves partners responsible for their own weight more than either west cost or east cost swing / lindyhop. Google swing out and notice the ones that seem like they would be the most pleasurable they wont be in Jive.
