best respect to the captain. he did best work at the scene. i admire him for his proffesionality in a situation absolutli craizy for him. got to admire him for the comunication to all the other wessels, he was calm and oriented. Well done Jan. You the best ;-)

Just remember the rudder isnt effective when backing, unless you have a prop going forward (to aid a twist). Also the thrusters are useless above slow speeds (3-ish knots).

I think it's wierd that ships that are sailing in any ocean doesn't have the correct training to handle things like this... I mean any company that makes money from the ocean, should be able to help out anyone in need too when ever needed. That's should have been a law..

This was the first mayday call and was only recorded at MRSC Turku. Apparently all the ships started recording after this first call. The "official" version was recorded at Silja Symphony.

It was pretty well acknowledged in the official report, that the operator at Helsinki Radio simply wasn't listening to the emergency channels. After all he did answer immediately once Mariella called him using mobile phone.
