Great to hear so much Lou acoustic. He rarely did this on his albums apart from the brilliant song Billy on 'Sally can't dance'. Love Kid/Kids here. The Berlin version is brilliant but so hard to bear.

But, Lou is not trying to be someone like Sinatra - Uptown Mafia Clone Wanna Be... which is the most likely reason why he became so popular in the first place!! Lou never had the backing of the New York Mob, nor did he have a music industry supporting him at all, unlike Sinatra. The Mob, most likely, bribed, or else, used Violence to get their man more airplay on American radio. Payola and corruption within the American and British music industry has always been part of the popular music genre. --- Lou is like the Lower-East-Side, or, downtown version of Sinatra, I think. At least, Lour wrote all of his songs unlike Sinatra and Stewart. Wow, so many famous stars have had other people write songs for them to sing.

Gene Flemming's Granddaughter found out the Sheriffs discovered who did it two years after the fact and kept it a secret. They never said why they covered it up. Supposedly the language in the report insinuates the individual was not "mentally responsible for their actions" etc...I'm sorry, but decapitating and skinning an animal alive is serial killer shit. The person who did this should have been placed in an institution at least for a few years. The Sheriffs shouldn't have covered this up. That poor man Gene Fleming never got any closure. What he got was rapid mental degeneration from the shock of not only loosing his animal but HOW he lost him. He got Alzheimer's fast. Andy helped keep him steady on the mental side. They deserved justice. Not a cover up. I could care less what excuse they came up with. It isn't a Cop's job to cover something up. They are paid to do a job. Not to cover something up because of whatever random reason they come up with. They should be fired and charged with obstruction of justice. And the name revealed to the authorities and to the Fleming family. www.atlasobscura.com/articles/the-goose-who-wore-nikes-and-the-mystery-of-who-murdered-him

Update : I just re-read the article. Nothing in their statement makes me believe that it was a mentally disabled person. It sounds to me like this was someone from a well to do family. Or even a Cop's relative. That's why they are covering it up. They just say the person who killed Andy isn't responsible. But that doesn't make any sense. It's total BS. This family deserves answers and closure. *“A recent call to former Chamber of Commerce president Don Reynolds confirmed this: “About two years [after the murder], someone from the sheriff’s department called and said, well, we found out who did it, but we can’t tell you, and we don’t want to have any news release about it,” he said over the phone yesterday. The department, he said, had told him that Andy’s killer was “somebody that was not responsible”-suggesting that they were perhaps mentally disabled, or otherwise not in control of their actions. (Sheriff Magee did not respond to a request for comment.)”* That statement is utter bullshit. Somebody not responsible, doesn’t mean they were mentally incompetent. It doesn’t mean anything at all. It’s vague as hell. It’s a statement that attempts to absolve the killer of all responsibility.

Thanks for posting this. Really interesting, I hope it's remastered and released in the future commercially. Reed left the VU after the Max's Kansas City residency on August 28, 1970 and other than an acoustic concert with John Cale and Nico in 1972, the players separated until the 1993 tour. Doug Yule would tour with Lou Reed and appeared on a couple of Reed's solo records. Maybe it's better Reed saved these songs for after the Velvet Underground. The Velvets never had a decent producer, and Reed never worked with a professional recording team until David Bowie helped him. Going Down, Wild Child made it to Reed's first solo album which was poorly engineered. Kill (your) Sons was recorded on Sally Can't Dance. Kid became the Kids and Looking Through the Eyes of Love was appended to How Do You Think it Feels, both on the Berlin LP. Bowie and Mick Ronson produced Transformer which used Lonely Saturday Night (Goodnight Ladies), I'm So Free, Hangin Round and Walk on the Wild Side, which he wrote for investors who intended to produce a Broadway play about the French Quarter, but it never opened. Funny that Kill Our Sons was an antiwar song. His only other antiwar song was Billy.

Most of these are available on the officially released albums "Another View" and "VU" from The Verve's back catalogue of recordings the Velvets had made in '68 and '69. "Prominent Men" is available on the 45th anniversary super deluxe edition of "The Velvet Underground & Nico" as it was recorded in the Ludlow Street Loft as part of the first demos ever recorded by John Cale, Lou Reed, and Sterling Morrison. Tracks 7-11 and 13-14 are available on the 45th anniversary super deluxe editions of either "The Velvet Underground & Nico" or "White Light/White Heat." And "Here She Comes Now" is on "White Light/White Heat." Fun fact: Nirvana covered that song twenty-five years later.
