I seen this at the Music Palace theater on Bowery. Very Special Era in NYC.

there's so much to say about this choreography. You can tell 99% of the speed is actually coming from the actors (as opposed to Jackie Chan or Sammo Hung, where maybe 70% of the speed is their own, and the rest is undercranking). Lo Mang's mantis style is incredibly tasteful, with none of that stylized "mantis-like" hand cupping.

I think Lu Feng and Chiang Sheng held back their fights because of respect and friendship. Sun Chien and Wei Pai were evenly matched. Sun was just careless. Excellent movie one of my top ten SB movies. My only complaint why didn't The Teacher identify the chest blows from the first three?

Magnifique!!

This movie was special for me for the reason that Lo Mang's character (the Mantis Fist fighter) survived to the end; a rarity, if one considers in most of his other appearances, he's killed off before the story ends. 🤔

You're right Wayne....They did him dirty in Five Deadly Venoms...Scorpion darts in his vital points under his ears, which The Snake stuck his fingers inside the same spots after the darts were removed, Then he got placed in The Iron Maiden with hundreds of spikes from his neck to his feet, after that they burned him with a device called The Iron Robe. And after that, they suffocated him with wet rice paper. Let's not mention how they did him in Kid with The Golden Arms & Crippled Avengers....Jeez Louise 🤔

The Venom gang, the movie is good but training is half the movie
@2yoyoyo1Unplugged3 жыл бұрын
That’s the point, I think. It’s so much more satisfying to see the training in detail, watch the fighter struggle to master his body and mind, and only at the end do you finally see why it needed to take so long; power is earned.

@chrisdooley64684 жыл бұрын
michael truthson so true. I was lucky enough to live in HK when I was young and had the chance to tour the Shaw Bros lot. The scope and sheer number of movies they put out literally on a daily basis was similar to our big studio lots here in the states. Sets, entire towns, outside areas, acres upon acres of filming locales. The most amazing thing I remember was their costume and prop department. The warehouse was like 45,000sq ft and had every time period clothing, house decor and weapons you would see in the movies. That was a fascinating time for a westerner to be there before the handover. But you’re right we’ll never see the types of martial arts movies on this scale again and it’s sad 😞

Because western people have destroyed such skills when England attacked China in the past. If England did not do that in the past, such skills and even more skills would still remain not only in movies but in real world.

@@goodguidance8209 What? Mao destroyed more traditional Chinese culture than the English ever could. Besides, nobody's stopping anybody from learning southern shaolin kung fu and making serious martial arts movies. the industry just changed and modern setting action movies & wire-fu just became more profitable in the 80s/90s (yes, in Hong Kong too).
