Hi Taylor, How fun was this video. You missed your calling, you should have been a Hollywood weapons designer 😁. If I was a judge on FORGED IN FIRE, you would have won. 😅Linda

My husband uses a craftsman 16 gallon shop vac for his dust collection. He uses it mostly on his dewalt planer. Dust does get everywhere he needs to invest in a shop dust collection system. You have a nice shop. My husband works out of a 14by 24 metal building.
@boydstongroveКүн бұрын
Our shop's are pretty similar size! Mines 16x20. Dust extraction SHOULD be at the top of my list, but somehow some other tool always steels the spot. Thanks for watching!

I built one of these today. I’m able to get 3 out of one cedar fence picket. Also, built a jig after building the first one so I can batch a bunch out quickly. Thanks for the video!

That's awesome! I would love to get a look at the jig, you should tag me on FB or Instagram so I can see it. Thanks for watching!

I couldn't find a 1:1 template so I went off the image I showed in the vid. I did find one reference that actually referred to it as a knife. Who knows, it's not exactly historical, so I guess it can be whatever we want it to be. Thanks for watching!

I know this build is a little different, and the video is a little goofy, but I had so much fun. #worthit

If you use a French’s mustard lid on your round glue bottle it works a lot better, if doesn’t clog up

My husband uses premade wheels on his toys, if ugly will drill a 19/64 hole instead of a 3/8 the axles will spin just as good. Another tip pour some glue on a board and use a flat tooth pick to coat the inside of the wheel then push the axle into the wheel it does a better job and not as messy

Thanks, love the pick glue spreading idea, I actually used that technique on the upcoming video.

I'm more curious about the paint process. Did you dilute, or just go at it?
@boydstongrove6 күн бұрын
Sometimes I do, but for this project, I painted a layer on and then wiped it down with a towel until I could see the wood grain again.

What size dowels do you use, my husband used a1/4 inch in the top hole and a 1/8 inch in the bottom hole he drilled the hole in the kangaroo 19/64 bit and also used washers between legs and body
@boydstongrove10 күн бұрын
It's been a minute since I've made one, but I'm pretty sure I only used 1/4" dowels for both spots. The washers is a good idea, I just left a little gap.

If you buy a new band saw, make sure you clean the blade that burning on the edges of all your cuts is because you either have an extremely dull blade that needs replacement or more likely your blade is covered in resin/glue from the wood you've been cutting clean the sides of the blade with rubbing alcohol and then touch the sides with a bar of soap while the blade is running to act as a lubricant. Your bandsaw motor and sander will thank you.
@boydstongrove10 күн бұрын
Thanks for the tips! I think I discovered the main problem; there were actually pieces missing that hold the blade in place, causing it to give a little when I put pressure on it. I'm in the middle of shopping for a new band saw as we speak.

I really appreciate that you were able to clearly show us how to do this, not once but twice, in less than 9 minutes while other makers took 20, 30, 40 minutes. Well done! I'll be using option 2 but we don't get a lot of cedar here so pressure treated pine will be our action. Thanks for a great instruction!

I love the project and want a laser. Do you think they are worth it and how does it hold up. The price on these things are all over the place and confusing 😊😊😊🎉🎉
@boydstongrove18 күн бұрын
I asked the same questions, but after having a laser engraver for a while, I love what I can add to projects with it. The pricing is all over the place because there are so many variations and addons. Knowing what I know now with two different lasers, I would recommend getting nothing smaller than a 10Watt laser, make sure you get a Waffle board (some don't include them), and you should consider getting air assist. I'm not going to stop making regular woodworking videos, but I do plan on integrating more Laser engraver videos as I learn more.
@kevindurica609219 күн бұрын
Great idea. Could be easily customized for weddings. What was the total price of the build???
@boydstongrove18 күн бұрын
Weddings! What a great idea! The cost is a little tricky since I used scraps for the main build. The engraving panels come out to a little less than a dollar for a 12x12 sheet. (i buy them in packs of 20). The plexiglass came in 12x12 sheets for about 8 dollars a sheet. I got the puck lights locally for $13 each.
@hansdegroot854915 күн бұрын
@@boydstongrove Great project. I like them both, but I think I prefer the brown stained one. Are you sure with the price for the plexiglass? I guess 12x12 are inches (not feet), so 8 dollars seems quite expensive to me.
