Curious how well the awning held up mounted that way in wind and rough roads. Any issues? Looking to mount it the same way.

Awning mount had no issues! I would check it every month or so to check to make sure bolts were still tight. No road noise from it either

Did you ever relocate your washer fluid reservoir?
@thommybeach
@thommybeach Жыл бұрын
I did. I failed to document it adequately however and didn’t make a video. Was fairly easy, accidentally broke one of the fluid connectors but just taped it back on. Some screws for the reservoir were not possible to reach so secured it the best I could.

I don’t see any reason the tent couldn’t be mounted in reverse except for the awning I had is one directional.

I ultimately ended up selling mine. I did not use it enough to warrant the price as well as the squeaky squeaky. I decided a ground tent will have to do for me or may buy one of the inflatable mattresses for the 4 runner back.

How much did you have to bend that power steering like to clear the winch? Or what did you end up doing?
@thommybeach
@thommybeach 2 жыл бұрын
Just bent it up towards the main body/radiator area. Don’t force anything but was a pretty easy bend and still had good clearance with no unnecessary stress on it. Did cause some clearances issues with my winch control box where it broke the mount to it, but warranty department for the winch fixed that and it’s all set again

Can you share the part number for the awning brackets you used? I need to do a similar setup for my Prinsu Rack with Freespirit Evolution pop-up tent.
@thommybeach

No part number necessarily. Awning brackets were whatever Ironman 4x4 supplied. I think it’s their only bracket, not sure it can be purchased on its own. The 1 inch spacers for the tent mounts can be found with a quick google though!

I liked the set-up and affordability. You paid $1300 for the RTT & awning? Did I hear you right? How is it holding up so far, any regrets in buying this instead of other brands?
@thommybeach
@thommybeach 2 жыл бұрын
I think it was closer for 2800$ for both brand new. No regrets on the brand, it held up well but I recently sold the set up in favor of a ground tent as I couldn’t justify having it mounted 24/7. If I were to go RTT again I would put it on a trailer so I could leave it behind when not in use.

Hi Thomas, thanks for your video. I am researching what RTT works best for me. I really like the Ironman 4x4. My question is where you mounted the RTT. Was there any particular reason why you mounted the tent more towards the front of the roof rack?
@thommybeach
@thommybeach 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Allen! Thanks for the question. I mainly mounted it toward the front for aesthetic purposes. I thought it looked better flush up against the Prinsu wind guard. I figured it may have less wind noise this way as well but have not tested it. I still have enough room in back to mount some maxtrax or water tanks if needed but this could also be done on the front. Figured the tent is more aerodynamic than either as well but just barely so it may break up the wind a bit better. In addition I believe it’s closer to the center of gravity of the 4runner so it will affect the feel of the car less when off-roading.

Does it flap in the wind?
@thommybeach
@thommybeach 2 жыл бұрын
Good question Mike! I actually meant to address wind noise in the video and completely forgot. I was surprised about how little difference it made. It slightly increased wind noise but not by a significant degree. This could be in part to the sound deadening I added to my doors when I installed the OEM audio plus sound system. I did not sound deaden my roof though. When driving with the windows down it is noticeably louder especially as the awning hangs over the drivers side. This is only at highway speeds though where generally driving with the windows down is loud anyway.

How many hours did your guy spend welding and grinding?
@thommybeach
@thommybeach 2 жыл бұрын
Probably took 5 or 6 to tack it all correctly but we were taking time to make sure we had all the angles right and everything was level. That time also included time for removing the front bumper and cutting as needed. We also tacked while it was on the vehicle. Probably another 5 or 6 to finish the main welds and grind. Then an extra hour or two for some finishing welds and grinding while it was on the vehicle if I had to estimate.

Great start if this is your first video! Considering getting a Coastal Offroad bumper but with a 20" light bar cutout. Coastal said the winch access holes will be moved onto the lower angled plate to create room. From your experiance do you think that would compramise access to the winch and it's function?
@thommybeach
@thommybeach 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there! Thanks for the comment! :) I don’t think it would compromise access to the winch in any way, it honestly may improve it or be indifferent. That being said the access isn’t to fantastic already, so I also kept the plastic cover in the engine bay behind the grille removed, just in case it’s easier to access the winch that way. Turning the clutch on the winch should be easy enough, getting the winch remote plugged in takes a little bit of tinkering though.
