I did backpack in 1984 as a 24 year old in Europe for 8 months….oh the memories, and you have definitely expanded on mine as we were only in each place so briefly, so much to see on a Eurail pass. Yes you cant beat the old towns of the Mediterranean. I'm from NZ as well and find it appalling that Property Developers here are intent on knocking down our old buildings and replacing them with soulless towers. These people make big money and where do they take their holidays to unwind? The charming old towns of Southern Europe...I think the irony is completely lost on them.
