It ain't where you from ots where you at. Show how deep those guys want in the crates. . To be creative requires an expansive Monday. Seeing things as what they can be not what they are.

this playlist is mind-boggling I have saved almost all songs to my own playlist, this is great music. Why did ska or blue music when out of style? was reggae popular in those days or did it not exist at all. the owner of this playlist truly knows what rhythm truly is. thank you a thousand times, thank you.

Music evolves as well as popular interest in it. Ska led to rocksteady, which in turn led to reggae. I was introduced to 3rd wave ska during its time, but gradually went backwards into classic ska and then forward to rocksteady, which I prefer nowadays. I love that, even though this music is before my time, I continue to discover amazing music and artists that speak to me unlike any others.

Tom Rapp wanted to release an anti-war album, and There Was a Man is probably the definitive moment on the anti-war record he ultimately released. By late 1968, the Tet Offensive had just finished two months earlier. The My Lai Massacre a few months before that. The Vietnam War was beginning to show the ugliest side of itself across the world. There was a feeling of helplessness and despair - at least to those who were paying attention. Tom was a deeply progressive person who was disgusted by the war and all the atrocities that came with it. I think of the Man as being something akin to divine providence or a prophet of God: blessed with foresight but helpless to intervene. And when he is repudiated, he leaves. And now Tom is gone much in the same way. But his music and his talents remain forever. And so does the hope that someday the wars will cease to be.

Genuis on display. Very reflective of this era of Jamaican music. Has kind of a western theme feel to the melody. Understandable given the love Jamaicans and West Indians in general had for westerns.
@giuseppelogiurato57182 жыл бұрын
My unintentionally racist Italian dad used to call this "Nigger Polka Cowboy Music". He loved it, but he definitely saw it as "foreign"... I am not Jamaican, I don't know anything really about Jamaican culture, nor am I "Black", but I'm a 90's kid, and everybody loved rediscovering this type of thing back then; Black, White, Latino, Asian and Filipino, etc... The music united everyone. It still does. ❤️❤️❤️

It's BURKE'S LAW! ("yuckah gwoing-gwoing, yuckah yo gwoing-gwoing")... And, Prince Buster ended up being a Muslim, and there was a big fight at his funeral! I love Reggae.
@elindioedwards70412 жыл бұрын
@@giuseppelogiurato5718 its a probably a good thing the fight was at the funeral rather than before. Prince Buster was a boxer and he looked and moved pretty good up until he passed away.

@@giuseppelogiurato5718 West Indians from that older generation loved country music and westerns. I have a great time watching and discussing westerns with my in-laws. There are not many westerns that they haven't watched.
