Very nicely done, really dynamic playing! Such a fun song to play! 🥁 Was this in a US production?

Hey thanks so much - this was a fun book to play. We used a tour orchestration but on broadway it was two books. Dan Haskins was on percussion and Dave Ratajczak on drums. Watching both of them play this show in New York was unforgettable. Two of the nicest and funniest guys and unbelievable players!

Man! 3 toms , 2 floor toms , 2 snares, 3 Rolo drums, 3 timpani’s , 3 crashes , 2 china’s , 1 splash , a six pad electric percussion, 1 tambourine, a laptop and 8 channel interface , you probably use Ableton , a midi keyboard , 1 or 2 percussion blocks 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

Not entirely. Looks like MPAC went with the reduced orchestration that has one trumpet, one trombone. (Original Broadway and West End productions had a 16 piece orchestra or larger with 2 trumpets and trombones.)

What crash cymbals we’re you using
@rmpercussion2 жыл бұрын
Hi Joey - that is an 18” Zildjian K and 16” Zildjian K. They were both part of a pack I believe. Really Great cymbals! I’ve been using the HHX Cymbals from Sabian more recently and I would definitely recommend checking them out too but the Zildjian Ks were my favorites for a long time! :)

Hello, it's me again with my questions :D How do you learn the production shows? I assume the first play-through while reading it can be tough, but you'll learn it pretty well after playing it a few times. Do they record these shows from, let's say the live mix? If they do, are they available to the players? I got recommended to a casting agent, which might get me hired for Royal Caribbean. Cheers! :)
@rmpercussion2 жыл бұрын
Hey Mikko - It’s been awhile but I think best case scenario is that the md on the ship will send out the charts along with a studio recording for you to look over before you join the ship. Worst case scenario is you have to sight read and just do you best to watch for drastic tempo and style changes. usually there is a sound check on embarkation day for you to get comfortable in the space but aside from that I don’t believe there is really any rehearsal period. As you look play through more and more production shows with a certain cruise line you might start to see that some numbers are reused and you become more familiar and comfortable playing them. Hope this helps!

Hello, my name is Matti. I'm from Germany and I'm 12 years old. My dream job is to later work as a drummer, percussionist, conductor or something else in a musical. May I ask you how much does a drummer/percussionist earn in a musical? I know musicians don't like to talk about money, but it would interest me a lot.

did you make this arrangement of the snl music? or where did you find it? everytime the opening theme is slightly different and i can never find sheet music or a solid arrangment
@rmpercussion3 жыл бұрын
Hey Sam-I just quickly transcribed what the drummer was playing on the track. The track is off an obscure CD called NBC: A Soundtrack of Must See TV. I don’t know if it’s available anymore so if you want it I’d be happy to email it to you if you can’t find it online. Thanks for checking out the video!!

Some of the hardest part of percussion playing is counting all those rests and knowing when to come in.

I really enjoyed it, what's the thing you enjoy the most when it comes to be a percusionist and not a drummer only? Is it easier once you know how to read music and have a wide rudimental knowledge?

Jeremy Wisler Hey Jeremy! Thanks so much! Sure thing- I’m certainly not an expert at all in terms of recording and mixing but I’d be more than happy to share the the settings and equipment I’ve been using here at home. I’ll post a video soon! In the meantime there’s a drummer by the name of Austin Burcham who is an awesome resource for this kind of stuff. (I think his youtube account is ABBDrums) I learned a lot of stuff by watching his videos as well. I’ll put some stuff together and send it your way! Hope you’re doing well!
