I will say this you need to tred very carfully saying things like Kool Herc invented Hip Hop. If you take a really deep dive into the subject you would know this is not the case. Unfortunatly HipHop like ALL MODERN MUSIC GENRES are a product of the military industrial complex. Studied music history all my life and its a hard pill to swallow but its the truth.

Hip-hop is a musical genre FIRST AND FOREMOST -- And with the "merry go round" technique (which is manual sampling) Herc made 1st generation hip-hop beats (what people refer to as "breakbeats") and was the first PRODUCER of hip-hop.. Which means he PRODUCED this musical genre.. In the music business, rappers DO NOT get credited for being the producer of a song, they only get credited as singer/songwriters.. So Herc LITERALLY produced Hip-Hop (the musical genre) .. He also brought everything together, making it a cult / culture.

I love and respect The Winstons - Amen Brother as much as anyone else but its just one side to the story. Don't forget it wasnt sampled till quite a bit after some of the grooves pointed out in this short but very well made Video on the subject. James Browns Funky Drummer and Incredible Bongo Bands Apache are some of the roots of juggling and sampling breakbeats, if this never because a thing guess what??? nobody would have sampled Amen Brother.

Extending a style that was already created, or simply looping it, doesn't earn you the title of "creator of hip hop" come on now. Too many factors

Created alot nore than hi0 hop by doong that, that led to a whole switch in music and djing and gsve birth to a genres in uk (jungle/dnb) thats still going strong 30 years later! If you're talking about hip hop as a culture, then yh, i get you but this technique inspired the rap genre as a music alot more than any other factor...

THAT'S LITERALLY WHAT HIP HOP PRODUCERS DO NOW !! listen to the "Bound 2" or "Take Over" beat by Kanye.. It's called sampling (which he created) and break-beats are 1st gen hip-hop beats. This musical innovation along with his parties caused a domino effect.. the moment he made break-beats, "break-dancing" came synonymously.. and the fact the beats had no vocals provided a demand for Emcees to rap over them. He also had graffiti artist come to his parties so he LITERALLY orchestrated the symphony of hip-hop culture.. He might have not grew the lemons or the sugar can from which the sugar came from but he sure as hell made lemonade with it.. Which is what hip hop is - it's lemonade (a combination of different ingredients, not separated elements like FBA's and Tariq try to make it seem).

So DJ Kool Herc started the Breakbeat, or was it way before 1970's? ... looking to the who and when Breakbeat actually started, it does says taken from Jazz, Drum samples!

The breakbeat has been there the whole time in songs when the drummer tends to play solo. And until 70s DJ Kool Herc invented the technique 'Juggling' to extend this 'breakbeat' part using 2 same records

hip hop has many factors. how is one "Chosen factor" considered the start? A lot of the props Herc gets , he's never even acknowledged. Not saying he didnt contribute, but it seems like a lot of the influence , of hip hop music, is intentionally left out at times.

He told a story once about coming to have a listen to what you were doing with the cueing system. Do you remember where that was? It could have been anywhere. Sometimes he says he was influenced by me. But they’re trying to say that I played a different type of music, that I didn’t play his type of music, I played disco music. This is where the controversy comes in. Disco music is hip-hop music! Hip-hop music is nothing but R&B.

Being a Native New Yorker (not the Bronx) hip hop is not only a music genre, but it's a cultural expression that includes dance styles, dress styles, even the language. According to Michaelwaynetv on KZbin, the music was already here and DJ's were playing the records that Herc spun. Of course he gets credit for bringing out obscure records that other DJ's couldn't find. Kool Herc's greatest contribution was picking exotic break sessions of records that people didnt hear on mainstream radio or in the clubs. DJ KOOL Herc was definitely an innovator of the genre. The point is that THERE WERE OTHER DJ'S who were main contributors to this music style also(ex: DJ Kool D, Disco King Mario, DJ Breakout). Herc did not invent hip hop. Like the other Bronx DJ's, he catered to the B-boys and the B-girls. They were the early precursors to the modern break dancers.
