Thank for the video brother.... BUT.. FYI for everyone... after unscrewing the knob and dropping the bracket, just pop out the hinge pins with a small screwdriver and lift the cross bars straight up, no sliding to scratch the rails either... been doing it for years..

How about a video replacing brake cable and where it hooks up underneath. The same cable that you just put some adjusters on that's the one I'm talking about.

Thanks for the video, but I have two questions: how do you lubricate these new needle rollers each year and secondly how do you lubricate the middle loose sheave of the pulley that slides and rotates? My MTD has the 'long version' of the variable pulley and the middle sheave is on a sleeve and slides up and down but has siezed. Thanks

0:47 Do NOT remove that brake arm as Jackson instructs in one of his clips, he tells watcher to remove that and just have the brake with the band, this mower had the AUXILIARY brake added as a EXTRA SAFETY feature, it is like a cars EMERGENCY brake, what IDIOT would remove the main braking system and ONLY have the emergency brake

I really appreciate you showing how you replace the bearings. It would be helpful if you were to mention what year your MTD yard machine was. Mine looks similar, but it's a smaller 38 inch cut. Model made between 2000 & 2003.

I'm late to the party but the little stainless pins that hold the bottom of the brackets on at the outside are held in place with the friction made when the brackets are clamping. You _MAY_ need pliers to get a good enough grip on them, but I was able to flick one out enough with a fingernail. So theoretically you could do the job with one hand easily =)

really random, but i just purchased one of these motors. The gasket in the glass bowl is rotted out, but the rest of the gaskets are good. is that gasket required for operation?
@ALVintageOutboards
@ALVintageOutboards 10 ай бұрын
Your carburetor should be a Tillotson MD series. It will be stamped on a flat spot right on the carburetor. Sherwood's going to ask you.

That gasket also has a screen on it. It will most likely "operate" but it will leak and sediment may get into the carb. Thanks for dropping by.

The lower section with the hinge and latch receiver was for a coal ash cleanout door. The gas burner was installed inside in lieu of using coal. If you look elsewhere in the basement, you will find a narrow room that was used for coal storage. This is a good furnace and will last for centuries without any real problems.

I recently bought an electric snowblower. This will be its third winter... really, I just bought it, how can it be the third? Anyway I am on the shelf about whether I like it better than a gas snowblower. But one of the advantages is no maintenance. No gas, no oil. And the drive and auger are direct drive from the electric motors... no belts. The batteries are a pain the the butt though. I thought I would be happy getting away from dealing with gas. It does have good torque though. About the same as an 8hp... maybe a bit better.

Just feels like it's third winter I guess. heh heh Electric certainly has it's pros and cons... you'll come crawling back to gas... you'll miss it... deep down, you'll really, really miss it.

@@Goregoonswasteofspace I think you are right, assuming that the gov't doesn't make gas snowblowers illegal. I really wanted to like this snowblower... but at the end of the day, I think it is a throwaway (he he). For the price, I could have got a really good gas one. And, once the batteries wear out, they are half the price of the snowblower,

I can beat this! I live in Canada and mine is an MTD model 311-965-500 33" bought new in 81 with an 11 horse Briggs flat head engine that's still got it's original points/condenser set up and starts first pull every single time. Sure I've replaced the friction drive wheel, axle bushings, rebuilt the auger drive gear box any number of times but never done anything to the engine other than emery those points, new spark plug and muffler every couple of years. The thing is a beast.
