I'm waiting on mine; I ordered the add-on module and it's good to have these kinds of overviews. I was never exactly an audiophile, I have no idea what card was in my Gateway 2000 and my sound card settings were always "Sound Blaster Compatible" and "General Midi". This will be uncharted territory for me.

That's how I configured sound on my first PC too. It wasn't until I got a PC that had a sound card with wavetable syntheses that I started to pay more attention to the audio settings

I'd love something like this with a PCI slot and an ISA slot instead of the AGP slot. Finding decent hardware of that age (that still works) is getting harder and harder.

did you try mounting the video card bracket to the case before installing the card, and reinserting the hex standoffs? seems like there might be enough room to do that.

@@squeeeb I think that being durable is quite debatable. I have 40-year-old motherboards, which I only had to replace tantalum capacitors with contemporary capacitors, other boards from the 90s, which I didn't need to do any maintenance on and they still work today. On the other hand, the ITX kit is produced on a much smaller scale, its parts are not affordable, they are usually built with old stock chips, making them very rare in the near future, and obviously, even more expensive...

@RicardoRamosRetrocomputacao
@RicardoRamosRetrocomputacao 17 күн бұрын
@@squeeeb Yes, I'm also happy to have options and to have someone concerned about developing this. The Chinese developed something similar, a 386 laptop, but in my opinion, it fails in the same aspect of being affordable (at least, considering the overall quality of the product). But I believe that the main flaw is the same one that has affected the entire technology sector for at least 30 years: we shouldn't create new products, but rather reuse products that are scrap. OLPC was created and failed for several reasons, but the fact that there are thousands of ThinkPads leaving companies and being thrown in the trash at the same time is something I can't forgive. In my opinion, the best way would be to create solutions to be able to use junkware, things that no one in the world wants, but that we can buy in bulk for a few dollars, like those old ITX motherboards with first-generation Atom processors, that is absolute garbage, and can even be found for free. This prevents the creation of tons of scrap and trash, avoids waste, and is good for your and my pocket.

Neat hardware, probably fun for people that don't have or want aging hardware to tinker with! Also, why couldn't you fit the graphics card with the back plate attached? It looked like it would fit if you'd angle it the other way, or at least screw the back plate back on after inserting it?
@LusRetroExtras-f3r
@LusRetroExtras-f3r 18 күн бұрын
The backplate was too high so it wont fit even after inserting the graphics card. Needs a low profile backplate.

Hi Lu, thanks for the video. About the horrible thermal pad you should have used it the same as any double sided tape. Peel off one side, stick it first firmly to the heatsink, then peel off the second liner and stick it on the IC. The key here is to stick it confidently :)

A popular choice. Used a better speaker set and mounted mine on an arm for my own. Doesn't handle various refresh modes all that well though so you will have to run in high latency mode for anything than 60Hz. I also have a P190ST and it handles low latency mode and screwy refresh modes like a champ! Lower res though... :(

Not bad for a free monitor. It seems to suit your keyboard case perfectly. There is a 4:3 monitor that is currently available. It's the Dell P1917S it sells for a litlte under $200 USD new. The good news is that I've been able to find them used for as little as $20. It has HDMI, DVI, and VGA so you can connect it to just about anything.
