I have trouble with the second sock and if I don’t knit it straight away I end up with a lot of odd socks. It is always boring doing the second one. I have solved the problem for me. I knit four socks at the same time alternating between them, they are all on their own set of magic loop needles I find if I get bored with one sock I switch to one of the others; I find I don’t get bored and I can knit each sock at a different stage. Sounds mad I know but it works for me. It takes much longer but I end up with four pair of finished socks. Thank you for your tutorial.
@janhavi7576Ай бұрын
thanks for great instructions! i am new to sock knitting - haven't yet even started, just learning. i am wondering if your use of two circular neddles together is an alternate and perhaps simpler way of doing the magic loop? also i don't think i caught what length each of your circular needles is - are they 9 inch? Thanks much.
@woollynomadАй бұрын
Hi I am glad you are learning some new techniques here. The two circular needles are an alternative to magic loop for sure. I find them a lot easier than the one set of needles. They are 2.25mm with a 40cm cable. 9" circulars are an option but I find them a bit too small. They are for knitting continuously in the round and are usually used on their own as one set. Hope that answers your questions. If you have any more please do ask. :)

That's an interesting way of increasing. I haven't seen it before. I usually see the M1R/M1L way of doing increases, or a yarn over. I may have to try this at some point, and see how it feels to me.

Glad it was helpful! I find that increase quite simple and I don't have to think about which way its leaning! :)

I have seen exactly one video showing how to do an afterthought heel. It doesn't look like a super beginner friendly type of heel to me. I've made several pairs of socks, mostly cuff down, but I just learned how to do a toe up sock, with Germen Short Rows for the heel. That wasn't as scary as I thought it would be, so perhaps the Afterthought Heel won't be as scary either. I may have to try that for the next pair I make, as I'm already doing a pair with the Germen Short Rows again. I'm trying to get out of my comfort zone with what I already know how to do, be a little more adventurous with the things I want to make, you know? Just to keep things interesting, and try to learn new things. It's so cool that there's so many different ways to make the same thing!
@woollynomadАй бұрын
You are so right. There are many ways to get a result and I think you have to try a few different techniques to find the one that you are most comfortable with. I like things to be easy and intuitive so that I can just knit up without referring to charts and patterns. Having said that sometimes its fun to knit a pattern and be guided! :)

Hi Thank you for your lovely comment. About your knitting. There are various ways of making the heel. I think you are proposing a holding needle instead of waste yarn which is doable but tricky. Adding in waste yarn is easier and its an experiment I might try later and see what we get! Do get in touch if you have any questions. I will try and answer as best I can! 😊

I am making my first sock and have watched all your videos as I've been looking for toe up sock using short circular needles... These tutorials are clear and easy to understand..thank you so much for doing them. I was wondering if I Would be able to just continue working the foot on one needle until I get to the heel and then slip half the stitches back onto the other needle to do the heel? I'll be watching for the tutorial for that when it come out... Thanks again.. Much appreciated.

I do love lacey patterns! I think this lacey white would be a lovely neck-scarf tied at the back if kept reasonably small, so the lace shows down the front. The beautiful orangey coloured cardigan is lovely in the stocking stitch. Some yarns knit more regularly than others in that sort of stitch, and this looks to be one of them!. Lovely baby things too. I used to love making baby knitteds - love the booties and look forward to seeing the finished cardi! Love to see the seagull dancing on the grass, trying to get the worms up from down below! More gorgeous socks too! And yet more! Some lovely edging and posy ideas too. Thank you for showing all these lovely pieces of work and good luck with all your projects!

This would be a lovely summer shawl, with the lace being quite open. Very nice! I do like lace knitting. I have tried bamboo needles, but I much prefer metal ones, but that just my personal preference. Thank you for a nice clear video. -

Thank you for your lovely comment and knit idea and yes metal needles are smooth. For the beginner I recommend wooden or bamboo as the knitting is less likely to slide off! I hope you have a lovely day being crafty! :)

Hi Libby Thanks for your feedback. I will certainly take that on board. Here I was knitting a project and just wanted to share how I organise the jogless join hence the dark yarn but the background certainly could be lighter. I still consider myself a learner when it comes to video production! :)

@@woollynomad Knitables (Sara) is the KZbin site I refer to most. I am back into knitting after a long absence and I am knitting toys because they are short term projects. Many toy patterns originate in England and I believe that is the origin of the site. You might try studying sites like that as a guide for what to do when making videos. Norman (Nimble Needles) is another favorite of mine. Both of them have focus directly on the work. I wish you lots of luck. I find knitting videos very helpful.

I've always done what you call a cable cast-on, but I also put the new stitch on the needle what is effectively the other way round - but it probably doesn't make much difference! I must admit that I'm not very fond of wooden needles - I like the old-style metal ones best, but each to their own! Very nice piece!
