It is as a result of Newton's third law of motion. Action and reaction are equal but opposite. It is the reaction due to atmospheric pressure acting on the exiting fluid

How would you find the maximum moment if the shear diagram had a parabolic function?

Oh sorry for the late response.. You will equate the shear function to zero and solve for distance x, then integrate the shear function, put the value of x above,. The value of the bending moment will be obtained. Hope it's clear

Always that's the angle the tangential component makes with the normal force. Meaning Cosine of that angle times the Normal force is equal to the tangential component
