In my defense, Pepper's (the actual Pepper's 😉) coat has changed from its original kitten gray to a more brownish color. I'll have to see if I can catch her on camera next time, haha. Also, I literally just bought that blanket, and yes! I couldn't agree more! ❄️

I was just thinking about your videos this week! Love your videos and love how they aren't cookie cutter like other book tubers (many of which i enjoy listening to as well). The difference? Many pump out the same info over and over and over again. You always have something creative with it, and it seems like you put thought into your editing. Keep it up! I'm not a McF girl either. I tried 3 (same with Hoover) to give it a fair shake. I like ACOTAR but lost interest in the beginning of the 3rd book I may pick it up again. I'd love to see your creative side with that series.

Freida Mcfadden was not put on this earth to tell us stories that have any moral thread. She tells us stories about terrible people doing terrible things and maybe they will get theirs or they will get away. I have read most of her books and i dont even know why i like them, no scratch that i dont like them, but i dont know why i need to read the next one. i dont even tell people they are good. If someone sees me reading them and ask me about them i just tell them, they are messed up. if you like that kinda thing.

books by TJ Klune have in all caps on the back "this book is for adults" but they don't have any spicy and it because they have LGBTQ+ content with no spicy. but books like ice breaker does not have the disclaimer.

I don’t really like the cartoon covers because they all are just so similar. If there was more variation in the art styles I’d feel differently. I do get annoyed at people who want them to cease to exist because ‘it’s too appealing to children!’. I 100% agree that they appeal to kids but I think parents need to be more involved. Should books have a little warning on the back with a ‘18+’ or ‘explicit’ sign on? Yes, but they don’t so it’s up to you as a parent to search up the books your kids are consuming. I’m sick of people blaming the publishing industry when parents just simply need to be more involved and check what their kids are reading. For example, Icebreaker sparked a lot of anger because people said it was far too childish and didn’t reflect the explicit content inside but a simple Google search ‘What Age Range is Icebreaker for?’ would quickly tell parents that it’s not for children. Even on the cover it has a quote from another author saying it’s ‘sizzling’ or something along those lines which clearly hint at the x rated content. I just think parents need to monitor the media their children consume more.

I disagree on the topic of half-star ratings. There is already a huge issue of the 'positivity problem' in online reviews with over 80% of ratings being 4 or 5 stars as people do not want to be perceived as negative. Instead of making the rating system more complex it should be the weight of reviews that is adjusted dynamically on the site.

Thank you for this video. I was trying to understand a lot of what I see from other writers. I mostly only read Christian thought which honestly doesn't matter, but the cover for the most part. All those certain covers definitely can be off-putting for instance, if the cover has a picture of the author and it's not an author who's been dead for a hundred plus years. Lol. However, I've been seeing all these cartoon covers and they're super off-putting to me. I'm confused me how somebody would actually feel comfortable having a book like that in their hands in public? Am I odd I don't think I am. Personally, I prefer minimalist covers extreme minimalist covers. With simple covers. But that is me i guess idk? And I don't like covers that feature people. Yuck

My first thought was "not all parants have time to read a book front to back just because they are thinking about gifting it to their child" And my second thought was "no, they can just google it and sceem over a few reviews, and in most cases at the top of the review there will be an indication of who the book is for" I guess that i can see why some parant wont think to do this, if they are from an older genoraton that didnt grow up with the internate, or are just in general not very tech savy, or arent familier with the current book sphere like booktok and wouldnt know that a book with a cover that cartoony can contain such explicit content.

let's not forget about the people who would want to put a 18+ sticker just because the main couple is LGBTQ+, regardless of if there are any scenes that would actually "require" the "warning"

Update: i just deleted my Goodreads today and I feel amazing. I will not be getting on Storygraph as I feel that the same issues exist with that site. I read for myself, no one else. Reading is a solo activity. It is very easy to track reading with something like Google Sheets, which can also compile data and create pretty charts.

I've literally only seen one book in my life that had a eighteen plus sticker on it (american psycho) was like wrapped so you couldn't look inside or anything which i can understand because the movies r rated however other books ive read that are graphic for the explicit content haven't theyve just had a little footnote on the bottom of the cover saying its adult which ive never seen on books like icebreaker the love hypothesis etc so i don't see why we haven't moved to including footnotes like that on the back as a sort of standard thing

You know... It's so surprising to hear about the problem of the lack of an 18+ sticker in books that actually contain 18+ scenes, after books from Russian publishers where the 18+ sticker is on the front cover, and the book itself is wrapped in film, although in fact the audience for this story is teenagers 13-14 years old, and all this is only because there is a homosexual love story. ;-;

I’m sorry but adults don’t need to constantly adjust themselves for kids. I don’t care about covers either way, however I do kinda prefer the cartoony ones as they look cuter. When I was 12 I was reading my mom’s cheap erotica novels that had real people in lewd positions on covers. Why? Because I wanted to read them. Children still have Wattpad, Episode, AO3, Tumblr etc, so if they want smut they will get it.

6 months late, but I use Fable instead of Storygraph and Goodreads. Used GR since 2016, but found it boring and suffocating. The integration of too many ads made me deviate from it, because I personally do not want to support Amaz0n. I found Fable to be more exciting than Storygraph earlier this year. Incredible community, lovely app, and has a very cute "reader summary." Importing GR data is easy too!

It feels like a major backlash against the old "bodice ripper" type covers, but it's veered too far into generic and "wholesome" that I can hardly tell what the story is by looking at it. I miss painted cover designs that weren't afraid to be a bit tacky, but got the point across (particularly for horror and romance genre books).
@EdwardHaas-e8x27 күн бұрын
Would you say people are more sensitive to explicit content these days (as oppesed fo 80s and 90s, let's say)? In my day, fairly explicit content seemed pretty acceptable and expected for books aimed at people 16 and up. My high school classes always had someone carrying around Interview with the Vampire or Flowers in the Attic LOL.
@mxka-b5m19 күн бұрын
Maybe? The thing is some people are less than 16 reading explicit content. Take "Icebreaker" for example, it has pretty detailed s*x scenes yet I've seen some 12 yo at my school reading it. (In my country, high school starts in 7th grade)

No matter the cover it’s our job as parents to make sure our children are not accidentally picking up smut or books that are not age appropriate. Anyway I LOVE the romance book covers from the 80s 😅😂 these new covers got nothing on the baddies that live on those book covers
