@@Bravo-Too-Much He's talking about the secondary portion of the HUMAT. That's a 3" on the secondary.

Are you suppose to drain the Hydrant before you connect the Humat? I've see departs do it some don't. Mainly because when you first open a Hydrant what comes out isn't water. I guess you wouldn't have to worry about that at the academy. However a general rule of thumb do you drain the plug first so that stuff doesn't get into your pump?

How many engines, ladders, command vehicles you guys have? How many stations?

In the city there are 32 structural fire houses with 29 engines, 6 district assistant chiefs, 6 towers, 9 trucks, two rescues and one Hazmat rig. The airport has 2 structural houses and 3 ARFF stations with two engines, two smaller engines (similar to a type 6) for airport tunnel suppression, a red chief, a truck, a hazmat rig and 6 crash trucks City side also has two type 6 and one type 3 wildland rigs, normally unmanned. Both city side and airport have a command rig but neither is regularly used. Station 39 breaks ground this year and station 40 next year.

Curious...? Your department doesn't use the 5" for supply line? If not , in what application would you use it since you have it on the engine?

We have four engines equipped with 5 inch supply. The rest of our engines are equipped with A 4 way Humat valve and Three inch supply line. In situations that apply first in Company can lay in with the Humat valve and 3 inch line drop a second 3 in line and second arriving Engine can work at the plug and supplement the water supply. The 5 inch companies have the discretion to lay in with the 5" or the Humat Valve depending on the situation. I hope that answers your question.
