This program is obviously not working. The homeless have increased exponentially. Drug use, shoplifting, and other crimes are ramped. It's disgusting.

Some thoughts about the Ward 3 seat. Those concerned over questions of democracy might consider that incumbents have a distinct advantage in an election. One candidate scored well against 2 incumbents, without correction for that electoral advantage. Councilors vote on issues that affect all the residents of Chatham Kent and so, all municipal Electors have a stake in the representation of every ward. Issues like biodiversity loss, climate change and housing can't be blamed on, or solved by, any one regional group. Responsibility is something that we all share. As such diversity of opinions and representation is our strength. Concepts like freedom and tools like elections, can be used for both democratic and undemocratic purposes. The task of counselors is to navigate the shoals of special interest.

There is no democracy when appointments are made. Any argument does not negate that fact that the woman was NOT elected, regardless of who won (incumbents). This is not a beauty pageant where the next runner up is elevated if the winner can't serve. The people who voted for the incumbents did not vote for her and they have the right to choose again. To assume that it's fine to make an appointment because of standing in the polls is willful disregard for their majority voices. AND to claim that others are doing it does not justify appointment. If everybody else is jumping off a cliff doesn't mean we should too. Those who voted for appointment, Mayor included, FAILED the people of Chatham-Kent. And I for one, will remember. I am not alone. When such things are done it serves the council not the people.

@@a.p.cairns1626 1) Learn how municipal elections actually work. 2) If Steve Pinsonneault hadn't abandoned his post this wouldn't be an issue... right? 3) "First Past the Post" elections are not democratic. Also , it was said that when chatham kent was forced on us it was to save money. Can you provide one example where that has happened in 30 plus years? You know , before outside our community people forced their policy on us to waste as much money as possible?

Still way too high and the councillor who stated on yesterday's video (which has been privatized for some reason), that the public is wrong about the perception of the future tax rates after 2024 is trying to make it sound like that it isn't the number and people shouldn't be upset about it. Whoever that councillor was, he's not telling the whole truth. The future numbers is where the council is starting, otherwise those numbers wouldn't have been brought up in the first place so trying to say it may not be that bad is like saying that 5.53% isn't that bad, well, compared to what they were planning, it isn't, but its still horrible. Its like saying about gas prices, gee $1.50 a litre isn't that as as $1.60 per litre while neglecting how bad $1.50 a litre is. Council did a poor job.
