@@nothipbuthipp7634 I can't speak for Ice Cream Man, but all the James Tynion IV ones - Something is Killing/House of Slaughter/Nice House on the Lake (becomes "on the Sea" after issue 13 i think) are all multiple volumes all with a variety of collected edition options - traditional trade paperback, deluxe editions collecting multiple trades and i wouldn't be surprised if BOOM doesn't eventually do larger editions again. Gideon Falls was published in 6 trade paperbacks after finishing in 2021.

This video does raise the Question of what is the line between a horror comic vs a horror-lite or supernatural comic ? i hate horror, but i enjoy Tynion's writing, so i've always categorised his horror-writing as horror-lite - hence why i'm collecting the single issues of The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos + deluxe editions of Killing Children / The Woods/House of Slaughter. Similarly Specs by David M Booher, DeadEndia by Hamish Steele, etc i can handle so i deem horror-lite/supernatural.

I would argue that Peter doesn't really become Spider-Man just yet, sure, we see him take out street level crime a few issues in but keep in mind this book takes place over the course of half a year and he starts out completely dogshit at being a superhero, like, getting his ass handed to him on a silver platter by the shocker wannabe as well as Fisk who goes into great detail how absolutely stupid he and Harry have been in their surveillance attempts at the time of their confrontation. It's made abundantly clear, this is not a Peter Parker on his A-Game. He's an older man, he's got the responsibility part down, what makes this interesting for me is him learning how to be a superhero.

Just a Epic Collection Moon Knight heads up cause i covered the early 1980 solo Moon Knight issues in a Comic Book Club a couple years ago (and it'll take you a bit to get there considering they've included all his early guest appearances in other titles at the start) - this is a product of the 70s and that means there are offensive cultural representations in it that would just not fly by today's standards. The way the few female characters are written are pretty woeful by modern standards too. It's an interesting historical study though, and you get to see early Bill Sienkiewicz art back when he was doing Marvel method art, before he started deviating into his true art style later in things like the New Mutants Demon Bear Saga.

i have the opposite problem to James with Ultimate Spider-Man - i want it to speed up, give me more content, fill out its world and characters faster. As somebody who historically consumes things as larger trades, collecting the single issues of this, drip-feeding me info has been slowly killing me. i especially want to know more about his teen son Richard and this version MJ who at this stage are paperthin as characters and rely on your existing knowledge of MJ & Jonah among others to fill in the blanks of this world. for me a good alt universe comic doesn't have to feel completely different from the parent universe, it just needs to explore the twist, and they're doing that. This is a Peter who has his life much more together, is sure of himself and has an emotional support network so is making better life decisions than the main universe Peter ever has. And i'm glad they ripped the bandaid off of the family knowing, because it would have made MJ look really dumb to go months and not notice her spouse exhibiting affair like behaviour lying and disappearing all the time.
@comicsetc578810 күн бұрын
I felt the spent a lot of time telling us that Pete had his life together but not enough time showing. I don't know. I just feel that by issue 25 at the speed they are going, how could it even be at all different from the MCU.

I think it's too early to compare the universes. The new ultimate universe has around three dozen issues out while the absolute universe only has one? I preferred Ultimate Spider-Man #1 to Absolute Batman #1 but Ultimate Spider-Man hasn't kept up the quality. At this point, I'm very interested in the overall story of the new ultimate universe. I am still interested in Absolute Wonder Woman and Absolute Green Lantern tho.

I enjoyed the storyline of Absolute Batman, but it didn't need to be a Batman title if you change the back story that much just make it a new character, change all the names, call him something like "the Brute", and start a whole new line of comics, I feel like they are scared to actual create something that isn't Batman, Superman or Wonder-woman and they would just prefer to keep slapping adjectives in front of the name to show it something cool and new(like Marvel does). and one day we are going to be getting titles like - The Amazing Surprisingly Truly Awesomeness Adventures of the Most Outrageous Bombastic Unstoppable Supreme Batman. The way Absolute is at the moment I'm just going to be reading every issue and waiting for his friends to turn bad. Where if it was a brand new comic with new character names, if they turn bad - I'd be like Wow, I didn't see that coming.
@comicsetc578818 күн бұрын
Very Very very good points. The last time they did a fresh character launch with stuff like Silencer etc it lasted like 6 issues so I see why they did have to go this way.

Nah, I disagree. The whole point of Absolute Universe was to bring the DC characters down to earth, make them underdogs with the odds stacked against them. These books feel very modern and unique and I love that
@raywilliams522513 күн бұрын
@@JUANxxTNAFAN Yeah but you can still have that without calling it a Batman comic. You can easily write a comic with heroes being the underdogs. And still have this same impact you just have to rely more on good story writing and less on using a brand name.

Ultimate Spider-Man i've really enjoyed but a lot of the intrigue and mystery i feel comes from a base understanding and love of the OG Amazing Spider-man series. You have to have a base understanding of the source material in order to appreciate the twist. i like the Ult BP i've read so far too, though yes it is similar to mainstream BP comics. early Ult X-Men by Momoko i don't mind, but don't love, and i'm unsure how i feel about them replacing Storm with Maystorm - it feels like blatant race-swapping in a way i'm not sure i'm comfortable with. Post-Giant-Size X-Men #1 by Len Wein & Dave Cockrum & the subsequent Claremont era made a massive point of having a racially diverse x-men line-up. reducing that line-up to a single race, even a non-white one feels like a step-back. Storm with her Kenyan heritage was probably one of the most consistent examples of that diversity too.
