Yes, you're right! Sorry about that. Since N = b/10^M, then set N = 100,000/10^7.2, and so dividing gives you N = 0.0063095. Since the problem says that the expected length of time in years is 1/N, then 1/0.0063095 = 158 years.

hi i use a ti84 plus C silver edition, but i do not have the tail function for invnorm, how can i fix it?
@yesicandomath7226
@yesicandomath7226 Жыл бұрын
So in your case your calculator is probably just tail left, meaning that if you need to find the P(x > a) = 0.10 for example where the area under the curve shaded to the right is 10% or 0.10, you would have to enter in your calculator the exact opposite: 1 - 0.10 = 0.9 since your calculator only works tail left.

A good exercise is to solve ax^2 + bx + c using competing the square to derive the quadratic formula.

If it's an indefinite integral, then you can't just enter it into the calculator. Refer to the video on the antipower rule to learn how to find those types of integrals: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gHzEZXSpbZ6qpMU

Why don't you use an area model, so that the traditional approach makes more sense? There's also the Po-Shen Loh method that makes this easier to conceptualize -- and makes the Quadratic Formula make more sense.

Thank you for the suggestion. This lesson is part of the college Algebra course that I teach. Many students need to learn how to complete the square for their Algebra 2 class as well so I'm hoping this video will be of help to them. That's the fascinating part of math! So many ways to solve it. Thanks for leaving a comment.

@@yesicandomath7226 You're welcome. According to the research, the majority of people (about 65%) are conceptual math leaners. They work their way through math problems, using logic -- not by memorizing processes. Without being taught said logic, they are "dead in the water," so to speak. If you check out the Po-Shen Loh method, you will see the connections to the Quadratic formula. Once you get used to it, you're able to do a lot of it in your head.
