Is it just me or can anybody see a harpsichord being played? I can hear one but the guy at the harpsichord appears asleep from the frontal shots and his hands don't seem to be moving from the side shots. Odd! Lovely recorder playing though!
@MenglinGao6 ай бұрын
There are two harpsichords if you look closely. Only one was used for this piece

Nicely performed, though in Monteverdi's time vocalists didn't yet apply constant wide vibrato to all long notes (that tradition seems to have started around the 1820s, and reached its full flowering in the mid-20th century).

good pronunciation of Italian, this voice really needs a good choir behind to create a good interpretation of the Lamento

It sounds good, however comparing with top-notch countertenors, there's space to improve yourself, let's go!

I’ve recently acquired one with similar design. I don’t dare to unfold it as the string tension seems to be quite tight! Is that normal? Just worried about the bridge ripping off
@MenglinGao11 ай бұрын
You have to use your elbow as a pivot to direct some of that tension. Tension should increase very briefly and then decrease during the motion, the key is to keep it slow (by using your elbow) and never let the extension snap back. I've never had an issue with folding and unfolding it; this year is my 7th year with the theorbo. The tension should not increase after you've folded it.

@@MenglinGao thank you Menglin, for sharing your insight and experience. It’s the creaking from the strings that frightened me haha. Looking forward to more videos from your ensemble!
@MenglinGao10 ай бұрын
You're very welcome! The creaking can be disheartening, but it just sounds much worse than it is. If you're worried, then a front-folding design might be better for you. Cheers! Will upload some content soon. @@jeremykohvoice

Absolutely remarkable. It's all in the passion. It's real. Some of my Early Music brethren may nit-pick a few things, but that's not what real music is all about. This was stunning!
