Hi Vernon, well I’m not a 100 percent sure you can use one of these for air compression . It has an oil pump on the back, and an oil heater on the bottom, these are essential. Also Freon comes into it ( this case R22) a vapor at low pressure, like 60 psi and leaves a hi pressure vapor like 200 psi or more. In this case the intake Freon cools the compressor , so yes using for air only may burn it up. I’ve seen people use little hermetic compressors ( welded shut) from old air conditioners or refrigerators and they seem to work ok although you have to deal with oil return. I would call the Santa Ana ca. RSD, they are Copland experts. (714-480-1177 ) Hope that helped alitle. Regards EM

Refridgerant is a gas ? Liquid? I realize it has a lubricant in it but if what it's compressing or circulating is heavier than air, then what's to keep it from bringing an air tank up to 40-100 psi.

So, it will overheat? I have a coplematic 3/4 hp, it will air up a 10 gal tank. It has an oil bath air filter on the intake side. Bit has only been used to air up a tire or other light periodic uses. Is the oil pan not separate from the compression chamber.? I hate to burn it up. It seems heavy duty is there any modifications I can do to make it work like a regular air compressor

Could one of these semi hermetic compressors be used on an air tank for compressed air . Nail guns , die grinders, paint sprayer , sand blaster etc?
