I make mine from lumber yard 2x6 spruce. You have to glue a wedge or a piece on both sides of the looms to get the looms bigger than one and half inches. Oars are made in many different styles.

That is a very simple, yet nice to look at, incredibly functional box and this video has definitely inspired me as a new woodworker to give this a go. I have not seen your method of placing “keys” in the corners to reinforce the mitre join so I’ll be trying that too. This was a wonderfully relaxing, very educational video and you have yourself a new subscriber sir. Best wishes, along with plenty of respect for your craft from London, England. Stay safe, take care and again best wishes

A few technique comments: * A stop on your miter cuts will help ensure that the lengths are equal. For a good miter joint, the miters must be accurate angle and the opposite pieces must be the same length * I would not glue the bottom panel in, it need to be able to expand and contract seasonally * If you line up the pieces against a staight edge, you can tape them up, then just roll up the box after gluing * When you are cutting slots for the keys, keep the same edge toward the fence for the middle one or they could be slightly off being equal from the edges * When edge routing the top, do the end-grain first so you can then cut of any chipout on the long grain routing. * For brass screws, it helps to first put in a same size steel screw, then remove it, wax the brass screw with paraffin and insert them. * You can get a three-way grain flow if you cut the pieces in order. Put the mis-matched corner in the back. There is a way to do a 4-way grain flow if you can resaw the board into two pieces (but yours is not thick enough to do that in this project).

Thank you! A lot of the tools you see are antique and collectibles that I acquired over the years and some are tools I bought brand new when I first started carpentry in 1975!
